The Senior Expense Accountant is a critical, hands-on role responsible for owning the core financial operations, corporate expense tracking, and month-end close processes within QuickBooks Online. Operating with strict adherence to US GAAP, the position manages end-to-end accounts payable workflows—including matching, approvals, and transaction coding—while spearheading bi-weekly payroll reconciliations and monthly bank audits. Beyond maintaining everyday fiscal discipline and supporting external audits, this role demands an analytically minded professional with over five years of experience who can leverage advanced Excel capabilities to identify data trends and proactively future-proof standard accounting frameworks to support organizational scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or a mix of public accounting and industry.
  • Accounts Payable experience - matching, approvals, and other controls.
  • Month-end close experience.
  • Proficient with use of Quickbooks Online.
  • Proficient in Excel and Google Sheets, creating pivot tables, utilizing various functions (index/match, sumifs, vlookups, etc.).
  • Ability to apply advanced accounting principles (US GAAP).
  • Proven ability to analyze YoY, MoM, accounting data trends.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the General Ledger, currently on Quickbooks Online.
  • Ensure timely payment of all accounts payable, ACH, wires, and checks as needed.
  • Code bank transactions and expenses to appropriate accounts and departments.
  • Perform bank and other account reconciliations on a monthly basis.
  • Work with the FP&A team to identify, report, resolve any accounting discrepancies and coding errors.
  • Support day-to-day and month-end responsibilities of the finance department.
  • Manage the quality control of our standard accounting processes.
  • Prepare and maintain various accounts, financial reporting, and reporting system infrastructure for smooth month close processes.
  • Prepare financial documents to provide to external CPAs and auditors.
  • Recommend, test and implement changes to future proof our standard accounting processes as we grow.
  • Other projects and tasks as may be assigned from time to time
