Sr Engineering Manager - Core Platform Services

Target•Minneapolis, MN
•Hybrid

About The Position

The Senior Engineering Manager will lead Target’s Core Platform Services team, partnering with a Principal Engineer, Product Manager, and peer platform leaders to remove friction across the builder experience and deliver common services used across Target’s platforms. The team’s work begins with Action Center, remediation guides, and agentic remediation, and will expand to capabilities that support builders from starting projects through operating them in production. The role is accountable for building a high-performing team of platform, full-stack, and AI engineers and developing future technical leaders. The manager will deliver highly available, multi-tenant services that are relied on across the enterprise; treat builder experience as a product; set and achieve adoption, completion, and manual-work reduction targets; and encourage adoption by peer platform teams. The role also applies AI safely, keeps people involved in reviewing changes where appropriate, and owns builder trust as an outcome. It includes operating business-critical services in a 24x7 production environment with strong on-call health and incident practices, and representing the team in cross-domain architecture and enterprise planning forums. The position requires technical judgment across architecture, APIs, workflows, multi-tenant systems, and failure analysis, along with clear communication, operational discipline, and effectiveness in ambiguous environments. The role works with the Product Manager and engineering leaders across Target to identify builder friction and shape the roadmap. The team commonly uses Golang, Kubernetes, Kafka, React, the Model Context Protocol (MCP), and agentic AI patterns. The position operates in a Hybrid/Flex for Your Day arrangement, with work performed both onsite at the assigned Target HQ Minnesota location and virtually based on role, team, and task needs. Work may not be performed outside the country of the primary work location unless otherwise prescribed by Target.
