Sr Engineer - System Engineering

GE Vernova•Schenectady, NY
•$113,200 - $188,800

About The Position

GE Vernova Wind is seeking an experienced professional to lead cross-functional engineering work on high-impact fleet issues, with a focus on timely and complete resolution of catastrophic turbine or fleet failures. The role independently forms and leads diverse root cause analysis (RCA) teams of subject matter experts and stakeholders in a global, matrixed organization. It applies engineering, problem-solving, and project-management methods to develop and drive containment, correction, and prevention plans while balancing business and customer technical needs and SQDC considerations. The Senior Engineer owns major fleet events from initial response and containment through RCA coordination and corrective action. The role leads the 8D process, organizes technical workstreams, coordinates monitoring and investigations, manages internal and customer communications, and drives urgent risk mitigation. It also seeks to improve RCA outcomes by incorporating lessons learned into products, supporting other RCA teams, improving processes, and applying corrective actions across other platforms. The position requires sound technical judgment, data analysis, stakeholder influence, and collaboration across engineering, operations, safety, legal, customers, and leadership. GE Vernova describes its work environment as offering professional development, challenging careers, and competitive compensation. The position is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus. Relocation assistance is not provided. U.S.-based applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States; an offer is conditioned on successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable.

  • Lead the 8D root cause analysis process for assigned major event RCAs, including forming and leading teams, identifying stakeholders and subject matter experts, and agreeing on objectives and expectations.
  • Define technical workstreams, assign owners, agree on task completion dates, and work with leadership to ensure workstreams are effective, prioritized, and on track.
  • Maintain major event checklists and other relevant documentation, including Quality Suite materials, technical underwriting, reports, and presentations; use tools such as Confluence for standard work.
  • Create and expedite fleet communications and related documentation, including manuals, work instructions, and TILs, as needed.

  • Develop and coordinate urgent containment actions to reduce quality costs and customer impact.
  • Identify safety considerations related to issues and containment actions and coordinate additional support to mitigate them.
  • Recommend stop-the-line actions for turbines, manufacturing, suppliers, or other areas and define criteria for resuming operations.
  • Identify root causes and contributing factors using established problem-solving tools; guide subject matter experts, maintain objectivity, and balance evidence gathering with the need to resolve customer impact quickly.
  • Execute methods for gathering additional evidence, such as data analysis, laboratory work, teardowns, and failure turn-on/turn-off investigations.
  • Guide teams in using new data sources and analytical methods to identify and validate root causes, considering cost and time.
