About The Position

At Baxter, our Manufacturing team plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of products that improve patient outcomes. As a Senior Engineer - Packaging, you will partner closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance, Validation, Supply Chain, and Site Engineering teams to drive operational excellence across Filling and Packaging operations. In this role, you will serve as a technical leader and project champion, bridging Engineering and Manufacturing throughout the project lifecycle while ensuring the successful integration of people, processes, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of engineering experience within Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Biotechnology, or Chemical Manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated experience leading packaging equipment installations, upgrades, qualifications, and validation activities.
  • Strong knowledge of packaging systems, automated equipment, and manufacturing process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience managing capital projects within regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols and equipment commissioning.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and statistical analysis tools.
  • Experience implementing and monitoring OEE and other manufacturing performance indicators.
  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance and equipment reliability principles.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Experience with filling, packaging, serialization, labeling, inspection, or automated manufacturing systems.
  • Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, installation, commissioning, qualification, and validation of new packaging equipment and systems.
  • Drive packaging process optimization initiatives to improve safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and cost performance.
  • Implement and sustain Statistical Process Control (SPC) programs for Filling and Packaging operations, including filler machines, torque application systems, and automated packaging equipment.
  • Ensure appropriate statistical methodologies are applied during equipment qualification and validation activities.
  • Develop and maintain systems to monitor documentation errors, identify trends, and implement corrective actions that improve compliance and operational performance.
  • Lead initiatives to transition preventive maintenance programs toward predictive and reliability-centered maintenance strategies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain Packaging and Filling performance metrics, including Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Analyze equipment performance data and identify opportunities to improve throughput, reduce downtime, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Manage capital projects, equipment upgrades, and continuous improvement initiatives from concept through implementation and project closure.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource requirements while ensuring adherence to project timelines and financial objectives.
  • Coordinate contractors, maintenance personnel, vendors, and technical resources required for successful project execution.
  • Facilitate cross-functional project meetings and provide regular status updates to site leadership and project stakeholders.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans to ensure successful execution with minimal impact to manufacturing operations.
  • Support manufacturing operations by troubleshooting packaging equipment issues and implementing sustainable solutions.
