About The Position

Nintendo Technology Development, a subsidiary of Nintendo Co., Ltd., is based in Redmond, Washington. This division focuses on creating future hardware and software technologies and researching North American-based technologies. The Sr Engineer role is responsible for delivering complex engineering projects from end-to-end, identifying module-level opportunities and risks, and serving as a mentor to other engineers. The position involves owning modules throughout their lifecycle, ensuring product quality, providing documentation, and supporting internal and external customers. Specific responsibilities vary depending on whether the role focuses on Software (SW), Hardware (HW), Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), or other specialized areas (OPT).

Requirements

  • 5+ years of recent experience developing software (SW).
  • 5+ years of recent experience developing hardware (HW).
  • 5+ years of recent experience testing software (SDET).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of embedded software/hardware design, application software design and emerging technologies (OPT).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of application software design and emerging technologies (OPT).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of application software design (OPT).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of system software design and emerging technologies (OPT).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of system software design (OPT).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of real-time interactive platform technologies and industry-related trends (OPT).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of software testing methodologies (SDET).
  • Highly proficient in their domain and knowledgeable in diverse technologies (OPT).
  • Highly proficient and knowledgeable in their domain (OPT).
  • Strong grasp of data structure and algorithms, multithreaded programming, and OS fundamentals (SW).
  • Experience with using graphics API such as OpenGL, Vulkan or DirectX (OPT).
  • Fluency with C, C++ or C# (or equivalent) (OPT).
  • Fluency with C++ (OPT).
  • BS or MS in engineering or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Owns one or more modules, understanding the development lifecycle and capable of owning modules at any phase.
  • Owns product quality over the entire lifecycle from conception and development to release and maintenance.
  • Provides documentation for owned modules and features in a timely manner.
  • Provides front-line support to internal and external customers and triages bug reports.
  • Performs code reviews, technical design reviews, and test plan reviews.
  • Scopes and executes delivery of modules involving multiple engineers.
  • Scopes and plans sprints for owned module(s).
  • Provides technical input into overall roadmap planning.
  • Prioritizes and balances new feature development vs. maintenance work.
  • Communicates and presents effectively to customers, internal stakeholders, and external vendors.
  • Create Test Plans to determine strategy, test coverage, and required tooling to ensure high product quality (SDET).
  • Designs, implements, and executes Automation Frameworks, Tools, and Tests for complex systems (SDET).
  • Develops automation systems using and targeting various technology domains with respect to hardware and software modules (SDET).
  • Works with DevOps to implement Continuous Integration for test automation (SDET).
  • Drives finding root cause and resolution of defects (SDET).
  • Consistently delivers high-quality and performant software solutions (SW).
  • Consistently delivers high-quality and performant hardware solutions (HW).
  • Research complex subjects and provides expert guidance (OPT).
  • Develops new features, conducts performance analysis, optimizes systems, and diagnoses failures (OPT).
  • Effectively debugs complex problems.
  • Makes pragmatic design decisions identifying risks, trade-offs, and alternatives.
  • Designs and implements complex systems.
  • Identifies problems with requirements and helps to resolve them.
  • Identifies and resolves dependencies impacting the team.
  • Analyzes existing processes and technologies and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborates with peer groups and other teams across Nintendo.
  • Provides coaching and mentorship and acts as a resource to other engineers.
  • Participates as a key contributor to the hiring process.
