Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

  • BS Mechanical, Electrical or other Engineering discipline (B.S. minimum) with 3+ years of engineering experience preferred
  • Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical engineering principles
  • Exposure to mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively on a team in a matrixed environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Technical curiosity and willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Work with other project team members on solving difficult mechanical engineering related problems, understanding project related issues, and general process understanding
  • Support cross-functional project teams from concept generation, technology development, detail design, build, and start-up
  • Prepare technical documentation, reports, progress updates, and presentations
  • Update drawings, schematics, and equipment documentation as systems evolve
  • Integrate commercially available technologies and processes and effectively leverage external machine builders and system integrators
  • Interface with internal R&D, Division Engineering, and manufacturing customers
  • Follow safe work practices during design, installation, testing, and troubleshooting
