About The Position

Doppler is hiring a Senior Engineer to help scale its developer-first secrets management platform, trusted by more than 78,000 teams. The role focuses on building reliable, performant, secure services, APIs, and data systems, while helping establish dependable agentic engineering practices that keep human judgment in the loop. The successful candidate will work across code and infrastructure, take end-to-end ownership of production systems, and help shape engineering standards and practices. Doppler’s Engineering team works across product, data, growth, infrastructure, and security. Requirements

At least 5 years of experience building and operating production software systems.
Strong technical fundamentals and well-reasoned perspectives on service and API design.
Strong data experience, including schema design, query performance, and migrations against live traffic.
Experience with distributed systems, their failure modes and tradeoffs, and designing for both.
Experience running production systems at scale and making major changes without downtime.
End-to-end ownership of services, including shipping, monitoring dashboards, and debugging in production.
Daily fluency with AI and agentic tooling, including an understanding of its strengths and limitations and how to use it without compromising security or quality.
Genuine engagement with developments in the AI industry and ability to distinguish substance from hype.
Sound judgment and accountability for shipped code, including ability to explain and defend it without relying on AI tools and to recognize when not to use an agent.
Pragmatism in choosing robust or simple solutions based on business value.
Willingness to help in situations that do not perfectly match the job description.
Willingness to acknowledge knowledge gaps and investigate further.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of and passion for security-first engineering.
Experience with typed languages, especially Go and/or TypeScript.
Experience with Kubernetes, infrastructure as code (Terraform preferred, Ansible, Pulumi, or similar), and a major cloud provider (GCP preferred; Doppler uses GCP; AWS or Azure also mentioned).
Experience building multi-tenant systems with isolation guarantees.
Experience designing or maintaining a public API used by engineers in a scaled production environment.
Experience releasing and supporting multiple versions in tandem.
Passion for mentoring others and shaping engineering culture.

Responsibilities

Design, build, own, operate, and support the services, APIs, and data systems central to Doppler’s product.
Scale Doppler’s platform, including its reliability, performance, and underlying infrastructure.
Establish reliable agentic patterns, including shared context, guardrails, and review practices that keep human judgment involved.
Lead by example in using AI and help other engineers work faster without sacrificing security or quality.
Own system design and influence engineering standards across the team.
Collaborate with engineers to turn ambiguous product problems into systems that can be confidently operated over the long term.
Apply a security-first perspective to all work.
Raise engineering standards through code reviews, design reviews, and mentorship.
