About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Senior Engineer with expertise in ADAS, and/or AVs for their Vehicle Engineering Practice. The candidate should have a fundamental interest in the automotive field, be technically talented with good hands-on skills, have excellent communication skills, and be motivated to grow professionally within Exponent. This role involves supporting consulting projects related to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), automated vehicles (AVs), vehicle performance, emissions, fuel economy, mechanical failures, safety assessments, regulations, and product design. The position also includes developing specialized expertise in automotive technology, setting up and executing test programs, and managing projects from initiation to completion.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field and 2+ years of experience (or a Master's Degree and 4+ years of experience)
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Experience in ADAS, automated vehicles (AVs), and/or vehicle safety, vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Knowledge of automotive systems
  • Field and/or lab measurement experience is required
  • Must have analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must have knowledge of dynamics, mechanical design, and control systems
  • P.E. license or the willingness to obtain a P.E. license
  • Must be versatile, team-oriented, willing to work overtime and travel when required
  • Must possess strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to synthesize technical information and present it to specialists and non-specialists alike
  • Clear written communication and technical writing skills are required
  • Must have a proven dedication to quality and accuracy

Responsibilities

  • Supporting existing consulting projects that involve the analysis and testing of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS); automated vehicles; vehicle, engine, and component performance (e.g., emissions; fuel economy; noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH); drivability; acceleration; etc.); federal emissions and fuel economy testing; mechanical failures; safety assessments; federal and state regulations; and the design of consumer and industrial products
  • Developing specialized expertise in the automotive field such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging automotive technology
  • Setting up and executing various test programs, including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control systems evaluations
  • Managing projects from initiation to completion and ensuring that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work product
