About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Managing Fire Protection Engineer for its Thermal Sciences Practice. This role involves performing outstanding technical work for clients, including fire and building code reviews, analysis of fire protection systems, laboratory experimental design and coordination, and fire and explosion investigations. The position also requires managing multidisciplinary teams, identifying business development opportunities, project management, client relationship building, and preparing proposals and technical reports.

Requirements

  • M.S., M.Eng., M.E., or Ph.D. in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States. No immigration sponsorship or processing required.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) strongly preferred
  • Strong technical background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and combustion
  • Minimum of 5 years of industry experience in Fire Protection Engineering
  • Business development experience with a proven track record, and a demonstrated ability to attract new and/or repeat clients or funding
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, proven ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment, and strong mentorship skills with technical staff
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong desire and ability to tackle a wide variety of problems within and outside direct area of expertise
  • Prior experience with prescriptive and/or performance-based analysis and application of codes and standards published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), International Code Council (ICC), American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and similar

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience in fire protection system design, installation, inspection, testing and maintenance preferred
