About The Position

42dot is a mobility AI company and the Global Software Center of Hyundai Motor Group, developing software-defined vehicle technologies through software and AI. The role designs, implements, and optimizes the core real-time software stack for next-generation automotive platforms, working across low-level drivers, board support packages, hardware interfaces, RTOS task management, communication protocols, and real-time application logic. It involves writing deterministic, high-performance C/C++ code, bringing up custom hardware, characterizing real-time performance, and supporting functional safety on Hyundai’s software-defined vehicle platform.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of hands-on embedded software engineering experience delivering production-grade firmware for resource-constrained platforms.
  • Expert-level proficiency in embedded C and C++, including pointers, memory management, concurrency, data structures, compiler behavior, and debugging optimized code.
  • Experience designing and debugging production software on an RTOS, including scheduling, synchronization, interrupt handling, inter-task communication, resource management, and timing analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with static-analysis tools such as Coverity, Polyspace, QAC, Cppcheck, or equivalent, including triaging findings, correcting defects, and managing justified suppressions.
  • Understanding of MCU architectures such as ARM Cortex-M/R or TriCore, bare-metal and RTOS abstractions, register-level driver development, and bus protocols such as CAN/CAN-FD, SPI, I2C, and Ethernet.
  • Hands-on experience bringing up new silicon or PCBs and using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and bus analyzers to isolate low-level bugs.
  • Working knowledge of software development under a regulated safety framework such as ISO 26262, IEC 62304, or DO-178C, including trace-to-requirements discipline.
  • Proficiency with Git, Bazel, and CI/CD pipelines for automated firmware compilation, static analysis, and testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct exposure to automotive protocols and stacks such as ISO 14229 (UDS), SOME/IP, DoIP, or automotive Ethernet.
  • Experience with multi-core microcontrollers, Hardware Security Modules, or secure boot implementation.
  • Proficiency in Python or C++ for custom developer tools, hardware-in-the-loop automation, or build infrastructure.
  • Experience developing software under MISRA C, MISRA C++, CERT C/C++, or comparable coding standards.
  • Experience designing, implementing, integrating, or debugging communication protocols, including message formats, serialization, state machines, error handling, fault recovery, and interoperability testing.
  • Experience developing production software in an object-oriented programming language and applying encapsulation, interface design, composition, and suitable design patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain board support packages, peripheral drivers, communication stacks, and application-layer logic in C/C++.
  • Write deterministic, defensive C code following MISRA C rules and ISO 26262 functional safety guidelines, and maintain zero critical static-analysis violations.
  • Configure and optimize RTOS or OS environments, including task scheduling, interrupt service routines, inter-process communication, memory allocation, and timing constraints.
  • Lead prototype-board hardware bring-up and perform system characterization, execution profiling, interrupt-latency tuning, and power and resource management.
  • Debug hardware/software interaction issues using hardware and protocol debugging equipment and tools.
  • Collaborate with hardware design, systems engineering, and verification and validation teams to define hardware/software interfaces, conduct bench testing, and validate code on target microcontrollers.
  • Use Python or shell scripting for host-side tooling, build automation, test-harness integration, and flashing utilities.
