Sr. Embedded Software Engineer
About The Position
Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to develop software for design verification of PCBAs and ECUs across current and next-generation vehicle platforms, including autonomy, infotainment, and vehicle controls. The role involves developing device drivers for PCBA components, creating software prototypes for early hardware-software co-design, and building validation test cases and SDKs. The engineer will work with teams developing embedded hardware and software for electric vehicles. The position focuses on embedded Linux and/or RTOS software for automotive electronics, including board bring-up, verification, and debugging. The engineer will collaborate across teams to deliver quality code, diagnose hardware and software issues, and communicate clearly with peers, stakeholders, customers, and technical leaders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- C programming skills.
- Good understanding of RTOS fundamentals.
- Good debugging skills and ability to work across organizations and teams.
- Experience using Lauterbach, oscilloscopes, JTAG, flashing tools, or similar tools.
- Experience with a scripting language such as Python or shell.
Nice To Haves
- Python programming skills.
- Good understanding of interface protocol stacks such as SPI, I2C, Ethernet, and PCIe, and board bring-up.
- Knowledge of operating system internals, including process scheduling, memory management, concurrency, synchronization, and storage.
- Experience using electronic test equipment for hardware-level debugging.
- Experience with embedded toolchains, including compilers, linkers, and linker scripts.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy embedded software on Linux and/or RTOS for board bring-up, verification, and debugging of automotive electronics.
- Collaborate across teams to deliver quality code, debug issues, prioritize work, and complete tasks efficiently.
- Debug in real time across software and hardware stacks, identify underlying issues, and provide solutions, collaborating with other teams as needed.
- Communicate clearly with peers, stakeholders, customers, and technical leaders.
