You will develop, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, operate, and maintain experimental, research, and prototype equipment associated with mechanical systems in the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science Directorate (NIF & PS). This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate. This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in electronics engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and related electronics/electrical industrial maintenance experience.
  • Substantial experience and advanced skills in electronic troubleshooting and assembly.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering hardware testing processes.
  • Broad experience with some aspect of advanced level electronic assembly, troubleshooting, installation, and/or maintenance.
  • Experience in safe work and business practices.
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Effective written, verbal, feedback, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and related electronics/electrical industrial maintenance experience.
  • Advanced understanding of electronic technology and experience working on a technical project team and providing technical direction to others.
  • Advanced technical skills and in-depth knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Independently deploy, troubleshoot, assemble, and disassemble complex electronic systems, including planning and selecting materials and equipment, interpreting standards, establishing methods, and setting priorities.
  • Independently identify, analyze, and provide solutions and alternative approaches to complex problems using advanced creativity and judgment.
  • Develop, author, implement, assess, or modify instructional guides for repairing, calibrating, operating, and maintaining equipment and systems.
  • Interpret standards and use advanced technical skills to evaluate and recommend methods and priorities for routine electronics maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Provide advanced technical support to engineering tests, physics experiments, and program operations.
  • Assist in developing complex test parameters, troubleshooting and testing materials, components, or systems, identifying problems, and providing input on solutions.
  • Contribute to complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision process.
  • Prioritize and provide work and technical guidance to others by checking for accuracy, completeness, and function.
  • Plan, organize, mentor, and lead projects of limited scope to meet defined objectives and schedules.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
