This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. This role sits in Blue Origin Operations. The Vertical Integration Strategy and Execution team stands up new in-house manufacturing capability for critical hardware. You will build, integrate, and test complex electromechanical assemblies in a development manufacturing facility, spanning precision mechanical assembly, industrial electrical build, high-current terminations, panel build, and electrical acceptance test. These lines are new, so instructions and tooling are still changing and you will often be the first to run a job. As a senior technician, you will work with limited direction, take on the hardest hardware, hold the quality bar, and train the crew around you. Expect varied shifts or overtime as the schedule requires.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Hands-on experience building complex electromechanical, electrical, or mechanical assemblies, gained through manufacturing, fabrication, industrial maintenance, panel build, automotive, marine, military, or a related trade
  • Able to work from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and written procedures, and record results accurately
  • Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and precision measurement tools, and able to use a multimeter, with interest in learning bench test equipment
  • Experience assembling to specification, including torque and fastener procedures
  • Able to work with limited direction, troubleshoot build and test issues, escalate clearly, and help or train less-experienced teammates
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods in a shop floor environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or wiring high-current electrical assemblies in a regulated or high-reliability environment such as aerospace, defense, solar, marine, rail, or precision industrial manufacturing
  • Bench testing, checkout, or troubleshooting of electronic assemblies, PCBAs, or control hardware, including component-level soldering and board rework
  • Executing formal acceptance test procedures and documenting results, including insulation resistance, hipot or dielectric withstand, or low-resistance testing
  • Insulation systems and processes, including Class F/H materials, taping and sleeving, and resin or varnish impregnation
  • Sensor and instrumentation installation and checkout, or PLC and control system I/O troubleshooting
  • Military or commercial electronics technician background, or formal electrical or electronics training through apprenticeship, technical school, or military program
  • Certification to IPC/WHMA-A-620, IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, or an equivalent workmanship standard, plus ESD control training (ANSI/ESD S20.20) and NFPA 70E arc flash training
  • Experience in a new or start-up production environment where processes, tooling, and documentation were still being developed, working to documented quality standards including configuration control and traceability

Responsibilities

  • Electrical build and test
  • Fabricating and installing power and control wiring per wiring diagrams, schematics, and cable schedules, including crimping, ferruling, lugging, soldering, and labeling
  • Terminating high-current conductors and fabricating, bending, and installing bus bar assemblies, with bolted joints torqued to specification
  • Applying insulation systems, including taping, sleeving, resin or varnish impregnation, potting, and encapsulation
  • Building and wiring control, instrumentation, and protection panels, and routing cable in conduit, tray, and flex with proper strain relief, grounding, and shield terminations
  • Setting up and running electrical and electronics tests per written procedures, including test article hookup, instrumentation installation, and verifying the setup before energizing
  • Performing electrical verification and acceptance testing, including continuity and ringout, low-resistance measurement, insulation resistance (megger), hipot or dielectric withstand, polarity verification, and functional checkout, recording results against pass/fail criteria
  • Troubleshooting failures to the assembly, board, component, or wiring level and performing approved rework including component-level soldering, using proper ESD practices
  • Operating bench and stand test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, current clamps, insulation testers, dielectric withstand testers, and data acquisition systems
  • Mechanical assembly and integration
  • Performing precision mechanical assembly, including fits and clearances, shimming, alignment, press and interference fits, and fasteners torqued to specification
  • Integrating electrical and mechanical sub-assemblies into higher-level units through final assembly, closeout, and preparation for acceptance test
  • Operating shop and material handling equipment including overhead cranes and rigging, and performing dimensional and electrical inspection with calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, DMMs, megohmmeters, and low-resistance ohmmeters
  • Preparing and verifying kits to the bill of materials, confirming material traceability, and helping ready new stations for production
  • Quality and safety
  • Following work instructions and test procedures precisely and recording completed steps and in-process data as required
  • Escalating problems found at the bench, including incorrect instructions, drawing discrepancies, tooling issues, and quality, safety, or material concerns, and supporting discrepancy disposition
  • Training and checking the work of less-experienced technicians, and working safely around energized and high-energy equipment including lockout/tagout and arc flash PPE
