About The Position

Quantum Art, a full stack quantum computing company, develops state of the art quantum computing systems based on trapped ions technology. We build our own quantum processing units (QPUs), develop novel quantum gates and circuits, and implement new algorithms capable of solving problems beyond the reach of classical computing. The trap group supplies the processor core, fabricating and powering the chip that traps our ion qubits in an electromagnetic field. We are looking for a hands-on senior level electrical engineer to lead our effort towards low noise electronics critical to QPU performance. The ideal candidate has both research and industry experience in analog DC and RF design, signal delivery, and active stabilization techniques. Must be comfortable working in a cross-disciplinary startup team and independently solving complex system-level problems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering roles in industrial R&D.
  • Strong skills in system-level architecture, simulation, and design.
  • Experience in board design, component selection, prototyping, and testing.
  • Experience with Spice, Altium Designer (or similar).
  • Can build lab set-ups and work with function generators, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, VNA, DAC, etc.
  • Excellent cross-disciplinary communication, teamwork, leadership and mentorship skills.

Nice To Haves

  • M.Sc. or above in Electrical Engineering.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with Python-based experimental control systems.
  • Familiarity with COMSOL, ANSYS, or other multi-physics simulation software.
  • Hands-on work with cryogenic or vacuum-compatible electronics.
  • Knowledge of FPGA development.
  • Background in physics, especially quantum systems – a strong plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design, construct, simulate, and test electronic sub-systems for the QPU, collaborating across teams and providing electrical engineering support company-wide.
  • Incorporate techniques from the fields of resonator and board design, RF signal delivery, signal processing, coherent control, noise mitigation, active stabilization and data analysis.
  • Define, simulate and measure the noise budget; identify and implement strategies to reduce, control and stabilize leading noise sources.
