About The Position

The Senior EHS Specialist (Generalist) is responsible for assisting in developing, implementing, and sustaining environmental, health, and safety programs in support of a regulated medical device manufacturing environment. This role supports the entire Acton Campus for office, distribution center, warehouse, research, development, quality and manufacturing operations. This role partners cross-functionally to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local EHS regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture aligned with FDA Quality System Regulations and ISO standards. The ideal candidate is a hands-on EHS professional with strong regulatory knowledge, sound technical judgment, and the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • 5-8+ years of progressive EHS experience, preferably in medical device, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting audits and inspections (OSHA, MADEP, EPA, FDA, ISO).
  • Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to build effective relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Ability to work independently under minimal guidance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cleanroom, lab, or GMP manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts-specific environmental and safety regulations.
  • Experience implementing or supporting ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 systems.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, MassDEP, and applicable local regulations, including: Hazard Communication, Electrical Safety / LOTO, Machine Guarding, Industrial Hygiene, Ergonomics, Emergency Response.
  • Interpret and apply EHS requirements within a medical device manufacturing and R&D environment.
  • Support FDA and ISO-related audits (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14001, ISO 45001) as they relate to EHS.
  • Assist in Developing, implement, and continuously improve EHS programs, procedures, and training materials.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Manage environmental programs including hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater, and chemical management.
  • Maintain EHS metrics, dashboards, and reporting for leadership review.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses (JHAs), risk assessments, and ergonomic evaluations.
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, R&D, and Facilities to identify and mitigate EHS risks.
  • Support management of change (MOC) processes from an EHS perspective.
  • Deliver EHS training for new hires and existing employees (classroom and shop-floor).
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to site leadership.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, visibility, and coaching.
  • Support contractor safety programs and permitting (hot work, confined space, etc.).
  • Review EHS requirements for vendors and service providers.
