Sr. Director, Operations & Finance

12th TribeLos Angeles, CA

About The Position

12th Tribe is a women's fashion DTC brand built on a decade of community, creativity, and growth. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Los Angeles, we operate a thriving e-commerce business alongside a physical retail presence — and we're scaling with intention. We're looking for a senior operator to own the financial and operational backbone of the business as we move into our next chapter. The Senior Director of Finance & Operations is a critical leadership hire reporting directly to the CEO. This person owns the full financial picture from accounting and forecasting to inventory planning — and ensures that our logistics and 3PL infrastructure runs cleanly and scales with the business. This isn't a pure finance seat; it's a hybrid operator role for someone who understands that in a DTC brand, money and operations are inseparable. Critically, this person doesn't just manage the numbers — they build the systems and templates that make the whole company smarter, and they communicate findings in clear, executive-ready written summaries that drive decisions. They're organized to a fault, tech-forward by nature, and comfortable owning both the model and the narrative around it.

Requirements

  • 8–12 years of experience in finance, operations, or a hybrid role — ideally within DTC, e-commerce, or consumer products
  • A builder: you don't inherit systems, you create them. Your forecasting models, budget templates, and reporting frameworks become the operating standard for the teams around you
  • A communicator: you write clearly and concisely. Your weekly finance summaries and ops recaps don't require a translator — they give leadership exactly what they need to make a call
  • Tech-forward: you actively seek out tools, automation, and AI-assisted workflows that reduce manual work and increase accuracy. You're not waiting for someone to hand you a better system — you build it
  • Deeply organized: you run a tight close process, maintain clean files, and create structure that others can follow without you in the room
  • Cross-functional by nature: you know how to work with a merchandising team, a performance marketing lead, and a warehouse in the same week — and you understand how their decisions ripple into your models
  • You've owned a 3PL relationship and know what good fulfillment performance looks like — and what to do when it breaks down
  • Startup or scale-up experience strongly preferred; you know how to build without over-engineering

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with [ERP/OMS/planning tools — e.g., Shopify, NetSuite, Cin7, Inventory Planner, etc.]
  • Background in women's fashion, apparel, or lifestyle brands
  • Experience supporting a business through a sale, raise, or operational transition

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close
  • Manage the P&L, cash flow, and balance sheet in partnership with external accountants or finance staff
  • Own financial reporting cadence — weekly, monthly, and quarterly — with written summaries that translate numbers into clear business context for the CEO and leadership team
  • Lead annual budgeting and quarterly reforecasting cycles across departments
  • Build, own, and continuously improve the company's forecasting infrastructure — revenue models, scenario plans, cash flow projections, and departmental budgets
  • Design templates and reporting frameworks that bring consistency and clarity across finance, inventory, and operations
  • Develop a rolling forecast methodology that integrates marketing calendar inputs, buying decisions, and channel performance in real time
  • Partner with performance marketing and merchandising to ensure paid media budgets and unit buys are tightly coordinated — including affiliate volumes and gifted product that impact sell-through
  • Translate model outputs into concise written summaries and recommendations that non-finance stakeholders can act on
  • Own inventory health across all channels — e-commerce, retail, and wholesale if applicable
  • Ensure buy quantities align with forecasted demand and marketed products; proactively flag risk and opportunity
  • Lead markdown and clearance strategy in partnership with merchandising
  • Build inventory reporting templates that give the team real-time visibility into sell-through, weeks of supply, and reorder triggers
  • Own the 3PL relationship end-to-end: SLA compliance, billing accuracy, fulfillment performance, and issue resolution
  • Manage inbound/outbound logistics, freight, and carrier relationships
  • Build operational scorecards and reporting cadences to track fulfillment cost per order, on-time rates, and carrier performance
  • Drive continuous improvement across the fulfillment operation with documented processes and clear accountability
  • Depending on org structure, may also oversee production coordination and vendor management (excluding design and creative direction)
  • Manage supplier lead times, purchase order workflows, and delivery timelines in partnership with the merchandising team

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience
  • Performance bonus eligibility
