About The Position

Microsoft Copilot is seeking an Internal Communications Director to lead the narrative, communications rhythm, and employee engagement strategy for a key product organization. This role involves partnering with senior leadership to translate business and product developments, organizational changes, and leadership priorities into clear internal communications. The ideal candidate is a strategic storyteller capable of both high-level architecture and hands-on content creation, comfortable with ambiguity, pace, and complexity in a rapidly evolving environment. The role requires mature judgment, strong writing skills, deep stakeholder understanding, and experience with technical and high-growth teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field AND 8+ years of experience in Communications, Marketing Operations, Field Operations, Program Management, Project Management, or a related field OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience supporting senior executives, product leaders, technical leaders, founders, or leadership teams in high-change environments.
  • Experience building internal narratives, leadership messaging, employee communications strategies, and communications rhythms for large or rapidly scaling organizations.
  • Experience in high-growth technology environments, startups, product-led companies, AI companies, or organizations that have gone through rapid scale, pivots, acquisition, integration, or significant organizational change.
  • Experience communicating with technical, engineering, product, or innovation-oriented audiences.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, including the ability to create clear, concise, high-quality messaging and materials with limited direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in ambiguity, exercise sound judgment, and move quickly while maintaining message quality, stakeholder trust, and strategic clarity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive the internal communications strategy for a large, fast-moving product organization, ensuring employees understand priorities, direction, culture, and narrative.
  • Translate leadership vision and business priorities into scalable internal storylines, messaging frameworks, and communications plans.
  • Partner with senior leaders to shape messaging, prepare communications, and create materials like emails, talking points, all-hands content, and presentations.
  • Build the internal narrative architecture, connecting product evolution, organizational change, employee sentiment, and Microsoft's AI opportunity.
  • Establish and improve communications channels, cadences, and information flow for effective employee and leader communication.
  • Collaborate across functions to understand audience needs, identify gaps, align priorities, and create resonant messaging for technical and product-focused employees.
  • Support communications during periods of organizational change, including updates, shifting priorities, new operating models, and business transformation.
  • Partner with tactical communications operators while owning the strategic layer to ensure execution aligns with strategy.
  • Use data, feedback, and input to evaluate communication effectiveness and improve clarity, channel usage, and employee understanding.
  • Help leaders foster two-way dialogue and reinforce a culture that is innovative, high-conviction, human-centered, and connected to Microsoft's AI mission.
