About The Position

The Senior Director, Inventory Strategy & Product Management defines and executes the company’s end‑to‑end inventory vision across merchandising, supply chain, stores, digital, finance, and technology. This role leads inventory strategy, inventory optimization, replenishment systems, allocation capabilities, and the product management roadmap for inventory‑related platforms and tools. The Senior Director drives profitable sales growth, improves inventory productivity, increases in‑stock performance, and enhances the customer experience through modern inventory practices, advanced analytics, and scalable technology solutions. The role partners closely across functions to ensure inventory investments align with business objectives and enterprise transformation priorities.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to define and execute end‑to‑end inventory and planning strategies that drive sales growth, margin optimization, inventory productivity, and customer experience at enterprise scale.
  • Deep knowledge of retail inventory management concepts, including forecasting, allocation, replenishment, lifecycle management, turnover, weeks of supply, sell‑through, markdown optimization, and in‑stock performance.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate enterprise vision and priorities into clear, actionable plans and disciplined execution across planning and inventory operations.
  • Experience leading product management teams and owning roadmaps for inventory, planning, and supply chain platforms, including ERP, OMS, WMS, allocation, replenishment, and inventory optimization systems.
  • Demonstrated capability advancing inventory and planning through modern systems, advanced analytics, predictive modeling, AI/ML, and automation to improve decision quality and operational efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of omnichannel retail operations, ensuring inventory platforms support BOPIS, ship‑from‑store, same‑day delivery, marketplace, and evolving fulfillment models.
  • Ability to establish KPI frameworks and executive reporting, leveraging customer behavior, demand signals, and operational data to optimize inventory positioning, availability, and performance.
  • Strong financial perspective with a deep understanding of working capital, inventory economics, margin optimization, and investment trade‑offs.
  • Demonstrated success partnering cross‑functionally with Merchandising, Merchandise Planning, Supply Chain, Finance, and Technology, with the ability to influence without authority and resolve complex enterprise challenges.
  • Experience leading modernization and transformation initiatives, operating effectively through ambiguity, driving adoption, and sustaining change at scale.
  • Proven people leader with experience developing directors and managers, setting clear expectations, coaching high performers, building succession plans, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
  • Effective communicator who simplifies complexity, clearly articulates risks and opportunities, and builds strong governance and decision frameworks with senior leadership.
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply.
  • 10-plus years of experience in merchandise planning, inventory management, supply chain, or operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of inventory and planning strategies that support sales growth, margin optimization, and inventory productivity.
  • Partner with senior leadership to translate enterprise priorities into clear, actionable plans across planning and inventory operations.
  • Own core operating rhythms, including forecasting cycles, inventory reviews, and leadership checkpoints.
  • Drive improvements across key inventory productivity metrics, including turnover, weeks of supply, fill rate, sell‑through, markdown optimization, and in‑stock performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement across allocation, replenishment, and end‑to‑end inventory lifecycle management.
  • Ensure strong alignment between planning decisions and operational execution.
  • Advance planning and inventory capabilities through the implementation and ongoing optimization of tools, including planning systems, forecasting models, and analytics platforms.
  • Lead and develop a team of product managers accountable for inventory and supply chain product portfolios.
  • Champion agile product management practices and cross‑functional delivery models.
  • Ensure inventory platforms effectively support omnichannel fulfillment models, including BOPIS, ship‑from‑store, same‑day delivery, and marketplace operations.
  • Partner closely with Technology and Product teams on roadmap development, system enhancements, and adoption.
  • Lead modernization efforts leveraging advanced analytics, AI, and automation to improve decision‑making and operational efficiency.
  • Establish KPI frameworks and executive‑level reporting for inventory health, productivity, forecasting accuracy, and operational performance.
  • Leverage advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and AI‑driven insights to improve inventory decisions.

  • Serve as a strategic partner to Merchandise Planning, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance, and Technology teams.

  • Communicate clearly with senior stakeholders on risks, opportunities, and performance against goals, while building strong governance and decision frameworks.
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of directors and managers across planning and inventory functions.
  • Set clear expectations, invest in talent development, and build strong succession plans.
