About The Position

Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) is seeking a Sr. Director, Internal & Stakeholder Communications to lead clarity, alignment, and trust across its workforce and key stakeholders. This senior enterprise communications leader will serve as the central communications integrator for high-impact, cross-functional initiatives, particularly those driven by the CEO, National Board, Executive Management Team, or enterprise strategy. The role requires a rigorous stakeholder lens, anticipation of risk, and ensuring that internal and Movement-facing communications are intentional, coordinated, and delivered effectively. The Senior Director will operate with high discretion and sound judgment, acting as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and a connective force across various departments including Corporate Affairs, Strategy, Customer Experience, Talent & Culture, Legal, and the Board Office. This is a hybrid role with 2 days in the New York City office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in internal, corporate, or stakeholder communications
  • Demonstrated success leading communications for complex, matrixed organizations
  • Experience advising senior executives on sensitive issues
  • Exceptional judgment, discretion, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong project management instincts paired with strategic communications expertise
  • Ability to translate strategy into clear, human-centered communications

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic communications leadership and project oversight for enterprise initiatives that are high-visibility, cross-functional in nature, and often driven by the CEO, National Board, Executive Management Team, or organizational strategy.
  • Lead stakeholder mapping and communications strategy from inception through execution.
  • Ensure the right leaders are engaged at the right moments for input and decision-making.
  • Anticipate issues, scenario-plan, and elevate risks before they escalate.
  • Coordinate communications timelines and outputs across teams.
  • Elevate critical matters to EMT as appropriate.
  • Act as a central project manager for complex, sensitive communications.
  • Serve as a strategic partner on internal governance communications, including strategy communications alignment tied to Vision 2030 execution, communications to and from the National Board, GSUSA-only internal communications in partnership with various Community leads.
  • Ensure GSUSA staff are informed early and clearly on major decisions.
  • Strengthen internal cascades so staff are aligned with Council CEOs—not learning after the fact.
  • Drive quarterly alignment and review of internal governance communications.
  • Work across internal business operations teams (e.g. Talent & Culture, Office of the CEO) to ensure communications to employees are thoughtful, strategic, and set the right tone for the organization.
  • Support Communications team members on thought leadership, including weekly email communication from the CEO.
  • Partner with Talent & Culture team members to roll out business updates and reminders to team members.
  • Manage organization-wide Town Hall meetings, developing agendas and acting as project lead for preparing for the meeting.
  • Review documents and provide feedback on long form content published by the organization.
  • In collaboration with the Office of the CEO, design and oversee a consistent process for evaluating inbound requests such as thought leadership and conference opportunities, external partnership inquiries, and requests for CEO or Board commitments.
  • Develop evaluation rubrics and decision frameworks.
  • Create templates and repositories to streamline responses.
  • Recommend clear next steps aligned with strategy and capacity.
  • In close partnership with the Chief Communications & Corporate Affairs Officer, serve as a strategic partner for proactive planning and future-state mapping and a steward of team capacity.
  • Manage a comprehensive and cross-functional communications calendar that is widely understood and adopted, and that brings a stakeholder lens to our communications.
  • Balance long-term strategic initiatives with reactive demands.
  • Track enterprise priorities and upcoming deliverables.
  • Help optimize how leadership time and communications resources are deployed across the Movement.
