About The Position

The Director, Internal Communications role is part of our Shared Services Division -- comprising four areas: finance and accounting; operations; people; and marketing. We ensure M+R is positioned to deliver outstanding services to clients such as Planned Parenthood, Feeding America, International Rescue Committee, NRDC, and many more. Day-to-day, our marketing and business development efforts ensure that M+R’s brand, creative perspective, culture, and expertise are clearly communicated, understood, and consistent across all activities and materials.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism or another related field.
  • At least 7 years of communications experience preferably in the nonprofit sector or a professional services firm.
  • Exceptional storytelling, grammar, and editing skills with the ability to distill complex information into clear, compelling communications for diverse audiences.
  • Exceptional communicator (oral and written) and active listener with the ability to communicate with candor, clarity, and authenticity; engage thoughtfully with diverse perspectives; and influence and inspire audiences at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience in event strategy, planning, and management, including the development and execution of firm-wide events such as all-staff conferences, leadership retreats, town halls, team-building activities, and other employee engagement events; ability to manage event logistics, stakeholder coordination, communications, timelines, and execution from concept through completion.
  • Demonstrated change management experience, including developing and executing communication strategies for organizational change, navigating ambiguity and uncertainty, anticipating stakeholder needs and concerns, and helping to explain the “why†, “what†, and “how†of change.
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to build alignment, address concerns, foster trust and engagement, and support successful adoption of new strategies, structures, processes, programs, or ways of working.
  • Proven experience collaborating across teams and building strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Professional and positive approach; self-motivated, collaborative, creative, and able to work independently and take initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement forward-thinking communications, collaborating with leadership to design and implement strategies that support key firm initiatives, reinforce business priorities, and ensure staff receive timely, engaging, and meaningful information.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and ghostwriter for senior leaders, particularly the CEO.
  • Drive the agenda for strategic and/or tactical discussions during bi-weekly Internal Communications Team meetings and monthly all-staff meetings.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor and firmwide resource on belonging, anti-racism, equity, and inclusion.
  • Under the direction of the Senior Creative Director, Marketing and Brand, develop and maintain M+R's brand identity, ensuring communications, programs, events, and employee experiences align with firm values, culture, and strategic priorities.
  • Create opportunities to strengthen employee engagement through storytelling, recognition, and communications that highlight staff, teams, and organizational impact.
  • Lead the planning and development of communications during sensitive or transformative firm-wide shifts to include restructurings, new service rollouts, or crises, minimizing disruption and fostering buy-in, in close coordination with CEO, CPO, and other senior leaders.
  • Support organizational change efforts through thoughtful communication planning, stakeholder engagement, and change management strategies.
  • Partner closely with Marketing/Business Development and People and Culture Areas to align internal messaging with branding, employer reputation, and internal culture. This includes monitoring Glassdoor and other sites that impact M+R’s employer brand and presenting recommendations to address concerns raised.
  • Serve as lead strategist and executor of firm-wide teambuilding activities to include all-staff conferences, leadership retreats, and other events.
  • Create and manage content of Homebase, the Broadcast newsletter, bi-weekly marketing digests, town halls, employee surveys, listening sessions, Slack, and other digital or print platforms to optimize employee and stakeholder engagement, and identify themes, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
