About The Position

The Sr. Director Financial Services - Strategic Enterprise serves as a Finance Executive sponsor for cross-functional initiatives, overseeing the compilation of quantitative and qualitative information and collaborating across the organization to support strategic initiatives. This role assists in developing viable solutions, ensuring they are vetted for risk, accuracy, feasibility, and cross-departmental impact. The director is responsible for advancing and achieving strategic Finance objectives on enterprise-wide initiatives, fostering decision-making, and driving change in support of Carilion Clinic’s mission. Key responsibilities include supervising Financial Directors, directing financial planning and evaluation, identifying and communicating action plans for financial goals, and serving as a member of the management team. The position also involves directing the development of operating and capital budgets, establishing and monitoring financial metrics, preparing budget variance analyses, and performing short and long-range financial analyses. The Sr. Director analyzes the financial impact of proposed contracts, evaluates operational issues and their financial impact, and recommends business opportunities. This role requires being a decision-maker and problem solver, providing financial education to designated areas, and maintaining effective working relationships with various finance-related departments such as revenue cycle management, treasury, audit, tax, accounting decision support, and insurance.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • Seven years experience in healthcare finance, accounting or financial planning.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Finance Executive sponsor for cross-functional initiatives.
  • Oversight of compilation of quantitative and qualitative information and collaborating across the organization to support organizational strategic initiatives.
  • Assist and direct development of viable solutions that have been vetted for risk, accuracy, feasibility and cross department/system wide impact.
  • Ensure strategic Finance objectives are advanced and achieved on enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Foster decision making and driving change in support of Carilion Clinic’s mission.
  • Supervise Financial Directors and direct financial planning and financial evaluation.
  • Identify and communicate areas of focus and action plans to execute financial goals and strategies.
  • Serve as a member of management team.
  • Direct the development of operating and capital budgets.
  • Help establish and monitor financial metrics and prepare budget variance analyses.
  • Coordinate and/or perform short and long range financial analyses using appropriate techniques.
  • Analyze financial impact of proposed contracts and recommend execution.
  • Analyze operational issues affecting designated areas and the whole organization and determine their financial impact.
  • Evaluate and recommend business opportunities.
  • Provide financial education to designated areas.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with revenue cycle management, treasury, audit, tax, accounting decision support and insurance departments on behalf of designated areas.
