About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Director of Development to lead the financial engine that powers our impact across NCAAT and NCAAT in Action. We are looking for a hands-on fundraising leader who loves the craft of development. As the Senior Director of Development, you will be the chief engine powering our state and national impact across both our 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4). This is a role built for a practitioner who understands the non-profit ecosystem inside and out. You are someone who knows how to translate grassroots program strategy into language that resonates with institutional foundations, and you genuinely enjoy cultivating relationships with individual donors. If you want to support the design of NCAAT/IA’s 5-10 year individual giving pipeline, serve as the chief narrative architect for major institutional grants, pitch funders, and execute our milestone 2026 Anniversary Gala, this role offers a platform to lead by doing. You will support a team of 1: Development Manager.

Requirements

• Possess a profound understanding of the cultural nuances, systemic challenges, and core priorities of the Asian American communities.
• Deep, practical experience working within the non-profit sector; you know how non-profits operate, and how to represent grassroots work to institutional audiences.
• You have a track record of personally writing winning grants and directly cultivating individual donor relationships that resulted in six-figure funding.
• You are comfortable working with a budget of $2M- $5M or more and have a clear understanding of fiscal responsibility.
• You exercise creativity and think outside the box when creating fundraising strategies.
• You have supervised, empowered, and supported people. You have established trust in your staff to perform their duties, given feedback when needed, and been accountable for how a team performed.
• You are meticulously organized and detail-oriented. You have built and maintained systems that help you succeed in keeping track of a high-volume complex information and details.
• You are personable and possess excellent communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills. You have deepened existing funder relationships and can name what came from them.
• You can juggle competing demands and focus on what’s most important at any given time. You can manage your own schedule to align with your top priorities, and you can model and assist your staff in doing the same. You can proactively identify when the demands of the job outpace your capacity and come up with solutions that work for you and your colleagues.
• You are comfortable traveling for national fundraising events, especially during busy seasons.

Responsibilities

• Steering NCAAT/IA’s Development Program: In collaboration with the Executive Director, create an annual Development plan and budget that you execute and scale to drive sustainable revenue across both entities.
• Build and utilize knowledge of issues impacting Asian communities in NC and of key voting legislation by attending and/or organizing relevant coalition meetings, forums, and other gatherings to inform the fundraising approach.
• Translate NCAAT/IA’s programmatic strategy and activities into systemic impact through the intersection of charitable giving (c3) and advocacy/political funding (c4).
• Serve as the internal authority on state and national philanthropic trends, integrating community-specific data and key voting legislation into highly relevant donor pitches.
• Cultivate deep partnerships across internal program teams, ensuring a constant flow of accurate information, powerful anecdotes, and milestones to elevate external fundraising communications.
• Serve as the chief narrative architect for institutional giving and the grant writing process, setting the standard for how the organization positions its impact to major foundations.
• Collaborate with program leads and development staff to gather accurate, timely information for grant proposals, financial reports, and fundraising emails, actively identifying powerful anecdotes, community highlights, and impact stories to lift up.
• Individual Giving, Pipelines & High-Dollar Events: Design and spearhead NCAAT/IA's long-term individual giving pipeline (5-10 year), establishing clear metric goals for multi-year sustainer growth.
• Individual Donor Stewardship: Architect a standardized, white-glove stewardship program, complete with targeted updates and formalized gift acknowledgments to transition high-net-worth prospects into recurring major donors.
• Plan and execute premier, high-dollar individual fundraising events, treating house parties and the marquee 2026 Anniversary Gala as strategic launchpads for donor acquisition and retention.
• Institutional Giving & End-to-End Grant Ownership: Serve as the primary author for institutional proposals, crafting compelling, sophisticated grant narratives that translate organizational strategy into high-yield foundation investments.
• Identify, prospect, and secure new institutional funding pipelines while deepening existing multi-year funder relationships.
• Build and deepen existing partnerships with funders and institutional partners by acting as a highly responsive principal point of contact.
• Prepare leadership for high-stakes funder meetings and proactively triage any critical relationship developments alongside the Executive Director.
• Proactively communicate with the Executive Director if there are any issues in funder relationships.
• Visibility, Networking & Conference Strategy: Executive Presence: Represent the organization on national and state stages, delivering high-impact public speaking presentations and securing critical pitch meetings at high-visibility conferences.
• Collaborate with the Development Manager to identify key events, manage leadership-level communications with external funders, and oversee rigorous post-conference follow-ups.
• Financial Management & System Integrity: Oversee the income forecast, monitor overall cash flow, and rigorously track fundraising performance to ensure both entities maintain a strong financial position.
• Deeply understand all grant agreements, establish restricted budgets, and audit program expenses alongside accountants and operations team to guarantee total alignment with funder parameters.
• System Ownership: Partner with the Development Manager to ensure data integrity within our CRM (EveryAction) are systematically tracked, including all funder deadlines, grant deliverables, communication timelines, renewal milestones, and reporting requirements.
• Board Governance & Partnership: Board Sub-Committee Leadership: Anchor the Board of Directors’ fundraising subcommittee, setting strategic agendas and delivering actionable development toolkits.
• Author the monthly board newsletter to keep members informed of key program updates and fundraising calls to action.
• Design and facilitate interactive workshops to equip board members with modern fundraising best practices, turning them into confident, aligned brand ambassadors.

Benefits

• Salary: $105,000-$115,000 annually.
• Hybrid Work Schedule: 2 days in office (Monday and Wednesday)/3 days remote plus flex-time Fridays. With notice, you may need to come into the office on other days depending on need (funder visits, event, etc.)
