About The Position

The Senior Tax Director will lead the company’s U.S. corporate tax compliance function, with a particular focus on U.S. federal and state income tax strategy, compliance, and reporting. This role will be instrumental in integrating the legacy U.S. tax functions of James Hardie and AZEK into a single U.S. tax team to ensure accurate tax filings, optimize tax positions, and manage risk while supporting business growth. This role will also assist with global tax planning initiatives to support the company’s growth and cross-border operations. The position reports directly to the Head of Global Tax and collaborates closely with finance, legal, and operational teams, as well as global tax counterparts to ensure alignment with international tax strategy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance and/or Tax
  • 12+ years of progressive tax experience, including leadership roles in listed multinational company or public accounting firm with relevant experience servicing listed multinational organizations.
  • Experience with international tax and transfer pricing.
  • Experience with ASC 740 accounting for income taxes.
  • Experience with tax planning for complex corporate structures and transactions.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities.
  • Deep technical tax expertise and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage complexity and uncertainty in a dynamic environment.
  • Proven commercial experience and demonstrated specialist taxation knowledge of corporate and international tax
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S.GAAP pertaining to tax
  • Direct technical knowledge of international tax issues including but not limited to foreign tax credits and transfer pricing
  • Demonstrated ability to provide specialist consulting and advisory services to diverse stakeholder groups in a forward-thinking manner which anticipates and supports business needs
  • Ability to partner with key business stakeholders to effectively address and resolve complex tax related matters with a result driven and “hands on” attitude
  • Ability to lead a team and encourage, develop, train, and motivate employees to reach their full potential
  • Strong communication skills with all levels in the organization cross-functional and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly motivated self-starter focused on delivery
  • Excellent computer skills – Excel (e.g., pivot tables, v-lookups), Word, PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with tax preparation software and tax research engines required

  • CPA, MSA and/or MST preferred
  • Experience in manufacturing or industrial sectors preferred.
  • Prior involvement in M&A, integrations, and entity restructuring activities preferred.
  • OneSource, SAP and other financially related software preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute U.S. corporate tax strategies aligned with global objectives.
  • Advise on U.S. tax implications of business transactions, including M&A, financing, and restructuring.
  • Oversee U.S. federal and state corporate income tax compliance and filings.
  • Oversee accurate tax provisions and disclosures under ASC 740 and U.S. GAAP.
  • Lead the integration of legacy U.S. based tax processed, systems and organization to obtain efficiencies and enhance timeliness and accuracy.
  • Manage relationships with external advisors and U.S. tax authorities.
  • Maintain strong tax controls and documentation to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor U.S. tax law changes and assess impact on the organization.
  • Monitor U.S. international tax developments and assess their impact on the organization.
  • Manage tax audits and controversy effectively.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing tax team.
  • Oversee workload distribution, resource planning, and performance management within the U.S. tax team.
  • Partner with global tax, finance, and legal teams to integrate tax considerations into business processes.
  • Collaborate with international tax teams to ensure alignment with global tax strategy and compliance.
  • Support global tax planning initiatives, including transfer pricing and cross-border transactions.
