Sr Digital Design Electrical Engineer

Axon•Sterling, VA
•$112,800 - $180,480•Hybrid

About The Position

Dedrone, an Axon company, is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to develop next-generation counter-UAS (cUAS) technology. The role has full design ownership from conceptualization through production and involves close collaboration with product managers, mechanical engineers, industrial designers, manufacturing teams, and domestic and international stakeholders. The work focuses on electrical system architecture, schematic and circuit design, PCB design, RF and power systems, and system-level testing and verification for ruggedized and regulated environments. The position is based at Axon’s Sterling, Virginia office and follows a hybrid schedule: onsite Tuesday through Friday, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless an approved workplace accommodation applies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in electrical design and system integration for complex hardware products.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, such as Altium.
  • Expertise in digital, power, and RF engineering, including software-defined radios and mixed-signal hardware development.
  • Solid understanding of signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC mitigation techniques, and relevant test and qualification methods.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to collaborate across functions and present technical tradeoffs to stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with high levels of ambiguity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cUAS, Satcom, defense, robotics, or wireless systems.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and design complex mixed-signal electrical systems for cUAS systems, emphasizing modularity, performance, and ruggedized operation.
  • Lead end-to-end development of scalable hardware platforms integrating high-speed digital designs, including FPGA-based architectures, analog sensor interfaces, and high-integrity power delivery systems.
  • Lead schematic design, including component selection and schematic development from concept through implementation.
  • Oversee PCB layout to ensure the design intent is implemented, with attention to signal integrity, power integrity, and EMI/EMC performance in high-speed and power-dense systems.
  • Own electrical analysis in an R&D role, using simulation as needed to validate signal integrity, power integrity, EMI/EMC performance, and thermal behavior.
  • Collaborate with domestic and international stakeholders across engineering, product, and program teams.
