About The Position

Backblaze is seeking a leader for its developer relations efforts to enhance its presence and trust within the developer community. This role is crucial as coding agents increasingly influence infrastructure decisions, making human interaction, trust, and transparency more important than ever. The Sr. Developer Relations Manager will leverage existing assets like the docs team, engineering focused on AI integrations, the Flamethrower Startup Program, content organization, and the outward-facing SE team to create a unified and credible developer presence. This program-defining role requires someone who thinks in systems, works backward from adoption goals, can establish technical credibility with new developers, and can act as both a channel and a face for developer relationships at Backblaze.

Requirements

  • Meaningful DevRel, developer marketing, or developer experience leadership at a cloud infrastructure, open source, or AI tooling company.
  • Experience building or significantly growing a developer program.
  • Understanding of how agentic workflows are reshaping developer discovery and integration of infrastructure tools, with opinions on DevRel strategy.
  • Technical credibility: ability to read a codebase, evaluate an SDK, write a working integration, and discuss technical tradeoffs with engineers.
  • Experience working or starting without a large team, amplifying through cross-functional relationships, external partners, and community.
  • Strong communication skills, both externally to developers and internally to leadership.
  • Existing presence in developer communities (e.g., following, conference talks, open source contributions, technical blog).

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience with model training, data processing, or generative media.
  • Familiarity with how coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) surface and recommend infrastructure tools.
  • Experience working with or building on top of open source frameworks in the AI/ML ecosystem (MLflow, DVC, Ray Data, WebDataset, and MosaicML Streaming).
  • Prior experience running or contributing to a startup/developer program (accelerator, cohort model, or similar).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Backblaze B2 is the best storage layer for developers and their agents by understanding how AI coders discover and evaluate infrastructure tools.
  • Define what "agent-ready" means for Backblaze and drive execution across engineering, docs, and content.
  • Coordinate engineering, docs, content, and SE teams around a unified developer strategy.
  • Build and maintain Backblaze's credibility in developer communities such as GitHub, Discord, open source projects, and developer events.
  • Elevate internal technical voices and use their expertise to build thought leadership.
  • Partner with ecosystem players and establish an earned presence in the community.
  • Maintain a tight feedback loop from the developer community back to product and engineering, surfacing adoption friction and unmet needs.
  • Utilize the Flamethrower Startup Program for direct access to early-stage builders.
  • Define success metrics such as developer signups, activation rates, B2 adoption in AI frameworks, community engagement, and content reach.
  • Own progress against defined metrics and connect awareness to conversion for revenue generation.
