About The Position

Extex, a division of Kaman, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Sr Design Engineer in Gilbert, Arizona. This role is crucial for various projects, focusing on the engineering of components and systems for aircraft gas turbine engines (including turbines, blades, nozzles, vanes, combustors, transmission gears, and gear assemblies) as well as helicopter components (including rotor systems, transmission gears, bearings, and structural components and assemblies). The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, proactive, and capable of completing projects with minimal oversight.

  • Minimum of 10 years related experience in Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 5 years related experience in Aerospace/Aviation required.
  • Proven ability to design and engineer aircraft components/systems.
  • Strong understanding of engineering specifications (AS, ASME, Mil, ASTM, etc)
  • Experience working with outside vendors.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling packages such as Solidworks and AutoCAD.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent technical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with FAA regulations for obtaining intellectual property preferred.
  • Experience working with a DER is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create intellectual property (PMA’s) via the design and development of various aerospace parts, assemblies, and products.
  • Create drawings and 3D models of components utilizing SolidWorks for new product development, current product improvements, and for the reverse engineering of products.
  • Write technical documents, substantiation packages, and FAA reports.
  • Effectively project manage multiple PMA projects in parallel through all phases (design, procurement, test, certification, etc) to meet or exceed project goals and timelines.
  • Apply best industry standard engineering practices and project management through a systematic approach.
  • Develop and document product and process specifications for new designs.
  • Maintain records required by regulatory agencies for the development of new product.
  • Verify the work of, assist, and train new/lesser skilled employees and/or vendor representatives.
  • Continuous improvement of all work processes related engineering.
  • Participate in development and provide technical expertise in specialty areas of projects and products.
  • Provide a high level of service to all internal and external customers. Contribute to positive teamwork environment.
  • Participate in training/learning other positions. Accomplish related results as needed.
  • Maintain clean and safe work environment. Follow safety and environmental procedures and regulations. Report safety incidents to supervisor.
  • The preparation of design substantiation packages of new product for submission to the FAA.
  • Create plans/drawings in SolidWorks based on findings from reverse engineering of components.
  • Interface with engineering, manufacturing & quality team members as well as outside vendors in order to complete project deliverables.
  • Participate in design review sessions and assists with validation/verification of work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
