About The Position

This role is responsible for accurately locating and marking company gas facilities, performing difficult line locates, and conducting investigations of gas facility damages to determine root causes. The position involves training and mentoring entry-level technicians, performing QA/QC activities, and maintaining relationships with excavators, municipalities, and other relevant personnel. The technician will also be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of company maps and records, assisting with damage prevention awareness activities, and completing accurate records and reports to comply with company and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the role may involve assisting other operations functions, holding stand-by duty, working shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency call-outs, and occasional extensive hours. The technician is also responsible for identifying and addressing safety and encroachment issues, and for the safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment. A strong adherence to company values, strategies, policies, and procedures, as well as a commitment to safety, is expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Two years of experience in damage prevention field experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Company operations.
  • Must complete any assigned training and learning for the position.
  • Must obtain and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and certifications for the position.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with Company standards.
  • Ability to communicate with internal/external customers and stakeholders to obtain and provide explanations and/or information.
  • Records management system experience is required.
  • Ability to utilize the Company's internet/intranet web site and available resources for data entry, reference and/or retrieval tasks.
  • Pre and post-employment screenings, including but not limited to drug testing as outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks are required.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately locates and marks company gas facilities.
  • Trains and mentors entry level and less experienced damage prevention technicians.
  • Performs more difficult line locates.
  • May perform QA/QC activities on less experienced technicians & contractors.
  • Reads and interprets system maps. Assures the accuracy of company maps and records as they relate to damage prevention.
  • Works with company crews and outside contractors to be available for any needed re-marking to prevent damage.
  • Conducts investigations of gas facility damages, determining root causes.
  • Maintains relationships with area excavators, municipalities, and other company personnel responsible for excavation activities. Reports suspected system damage. May be involved with damage prevention awareness activities.
  • Completes and maintains accurate records and reports to comply with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists other operations functions as needed and may perform C&M and service work when not performing damage prevention duties.
  • May be required to hold stand-by duty, work shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency call outs, and occasional extensive hours.
  • Is subject to reporting outside regular work area.
  • Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues to their resolution and completion.
  • Is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment.
