About The Position

This position is responsible for accurately locating and marking company gas facilities, training and mentoring less experienced technicians, performing difficult line locates, and potentially conducting QA/QC activities. The role involves interpreting system maps, ensuring their accuracy, and working with crews and contractors to prevent damage. Investigations of damages, root cause determination, and maintaining relationships with excavators and municipalities are key aspects. The technician will also complete records and reports, assist other operations functions, and may perform C&M and service work. This role may require stand-by duty, working shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency call-outs, and occasional extensive hours, potentially reporting outside the regular work area. Identifying and resolving safety and encroachment issues, and ensuring the safe operation and inspection of company vehicles and equipment are also responsibilities. The position requires adherence to company values, strategies, policies, and procedures, and a commitment to maintaining a safe working environment through training and involvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or a General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Two years of experience in damage prevention field experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of Company operations.
  • Ability to communicate with internal/external customers and stakeholders to obtain and provide explanations and/or information.
  • Records management system experience.
  • Ability to utilize the Company's internet/intranet web site and available resources for data entry, reference and/or retrieval tasks.
  • Requires valid driver's license in accordance with Company standards.
  • Must obtain and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and certifications for the position.
  • Must complete any assigned training and learning for the position.
  • Requires occasionally performing activities including, but not limited to, bending, stooping, grasping, reaching, twisting, turning and/or lifting.
  • Requires the acute sense of sight and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) and strong sense of smell.
  • Requires extensive walking on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to lift tools, equipment and materials up to and including 45 pounds.
  • As a Safety-Sensitive position, pre and post-employment screenings, including but not limited to drug testing as outlined by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and motor vehicle record (MVR) background checks are required.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately locates and marks company gas facilities.
  • Trains and mentors entry level and less experienced damage prevention technicians.
  • Performs more difficult line locates.
  • May perform QA/QC activities on less experienced technicians & contractors.
  • Reads and interprets system maps. Assures the accuracy of company maps and records as they relate to damage prevention.
  • Works with company crews and outside contractors to be available for any needed re-marking to prevent damage.
  • Conducts investigations of gas facility damages, determining root causes.
  • Maintains relationships with area excavators, municipalities, and other company personnel responsible for excavation activities. Reports suspected system damage. May be involved with damage prevention awareness activities.
  • Completes and maintains accurate records and reports to comply with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists other operations functions as needed and may perform C&M and service work when not performing damage prevention duties.
  • May be required to hold stand-by duty, work shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency call outs, and occasional extensive hours.
  • Is subject to reporting outside regular work area.
  • Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues to their resolution and completion.
  • Is responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment.
