About The Position

Corning is a world leader in glass, ceramic, and materials science, known for its innovation. The Optical Communications segment has evolved into a comprehensive provider of optical solutions. This segment is divided into carrier network and enterprise network product groups. The role of Controls Technician is within the Research and Development team, focusing on developing and improving control systems for optical fiber manufacturing equipment and implementing new technological solutions. The position requires strong troubleshooting skills, a solid understanding of electrical systems, and effective teamwork.

Requirements

A two-year electrical or mechatronics technical degree is preferred with 10+ years of work experience in a technical field.
Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software.
Electrical schematic development with AutoCAD Electrical software.
Mechanically and electrically inclined.
Ability to read and interpret electrical, instrumentation and mechanical drawings.
Basic understanding of PLCs.
Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks as necessary.
Excellent people skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Strong decision-making skills.
Good electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting skills.
Ability to draft a scope of work for an electrical installation team and manage the team to complete the installation.
Familiarity with safety and electrical codes related to industrial equipment and electrical installations.
Experience with computer-based data collection and analysis tools such as PI.
Capability to use diagnostic testing equipment

Responsibilities

Support the design, installation, and troubleshooting of control systems for development equipment.
Design, install, and troubleshoot new controls capabilities and/or measurement instrumentation and techniques on industrial equipment.
Collaborate with equipment design engineers, processing equipment deployment teams, and manufacturing receivers during all stages of technology development.
Provide support for the startup of new equipment and processes.
Provide training and documentation to support the transfer of new control systems and equipment.
Document actions, testing results, observations, final project results, and research findings.
Manage a team of electricians during equipment installations.
