As a world leader in creating comfortable, sustainable, and efficient climate solutions for buildings, homes and transportation, it's our responsibility to put the planet first. For us at Trane Technologies, and through our businesses including Trane® and Thermo King, sustainability is not just how we do business—it is our business. This role is field-based, meaning work is conducted on-site at customer locations. The Sr. Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, commissioning, diagnosis, repair, and start-up of HVAC systems, utilizing knowledge of air conditioning theory, pipe fitting, air distribution, controls and mechanical layouts. This role involves planning, analyzing, and timely completion of assigned projects and activities, using a variety of hand tools and interpreting construction drawings, plans, and specifications to mount, hang, fit, and install equipment and systems. The technician ensures compliance with internal contracting processes, performs site surveys, replacements, modifications, and start-ups as needed, and prepares for on-site installation by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating on-site work with other trades. They maintain assigned stock of inventory and company equipment, document all related activities, and record parts, material, labor, and other cost data per assignment, returning unused resources. Additionally, the role involves providing training and follow-up training at customer sites, generating sales leads for appropriate personnel, documenting work by completing job paperwork, and turning in all required paperwork and reports in a timely manner. The technician provides technical support to customers, communicates with customers and their representatives, and maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns and implementing corrective action. They support Project Managers by ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget, and support Project Developers in equipment procurement. The role also involves acquiring project materials, assisting Project Managers in planning and prioritizing tasks, attending weekly planning meetings, and supervising the work of project installation technicians, subcontractors, and vendors, requiring the ability to lead and motivate others. Ensuring quality installation, assisting in estimate development, and supporting Project Managers in change order management are also key responsibilities. A willingness to learn new HVAC technologies and systems, and the ability to operate rental equipment (e.g., forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts) are essential. The technician represents the company as the direct customer contact, servicing products and equipment on assigned projects, and keeping current on Trane products concerning the installation of direct digital control systems. Vehicle and equipment maintenance, including inspecting vehicles, maintaining records of service manuals, and inspecting tools and equipment for wear, are also part of the role. Continual enforcement of safety standards and maintenance of security and accountability of company assets are paramount. Regular travel with occasional overnight stays is required, along with flexibility for overtime and weekends as business needs dictate.
