Nationwide Commercial IT is seeking a Senior Consultant, Technology Innovation Analyst (TIA) to help shape the future state of Middle Market Underwriting segments. This is a highly strategic, high-visibility role at the intersection of business vision and technology delivery, where you’ll turn complex ideas into scalable, enterprise-ready solutions. As a Senior TIA, you are more than a contributor, you are a trusted advisor and driver of innovation. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, partnering with senior and executive leadership to: Translate complex, ambiguous business challenges into strategic, fundable initiatives Lead end-to-end shaping of large, cross-functional programs Influence enterprise priorities, investment decisions, and product strategy Establish and mature practices across teams and initiatives Deliver innovative, technology-driven solutions that create measurable business value Must have prior Middle Market knowledge Your work will directly shape the direction of Commercial Lines and drive transformation. As a Technology Innovation Analyst, you’ll assist technology strategy and planning activities by analyzing technology trends, including enterprise architecture, technology portfolio dimensions and benchmark and peer analysis. You’ll be on point to assess the impact of emerging technical and business trends on future technology needs and capabilities. It’s also expected that you will develop and manage the creation of thought leadership articles, point-of-view papers, new ideas and concepts specifically to bring together technologies that could help Nationwide differentiate and create value. Additionally, you’ll have opportunities to define and evolve concepts aligned to the Nationwide’s technology innovation portfolio and may serve as a lead to cross-functional teams focused on adjacent and transformational innovation.

Requirements

  • Advanced expertise in requirements strategy, backlog leadership, and facilitation of complex discussions
  • Proven ability to lead large, ambiguous initiatives with minimal direction
  • Strong track record of influencing executive stakeholders and investment decisions
  • Exceptional communication, storytelling, and stakeholder alignment skills
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to connect vision to execution
  • Passion for innovation, transformation, and continuous improvement
  • Must have prior Middle Market knowledge
  • Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems or a related field is preferred.
  • More than 10 years of experience delivering technology-enabled business solutions and transformational change across industries, platforms and lines of businesses within the insurance and/or financial services industries or equivalent experience as a management consultant for a mid- to top-tier consulting firm (i.e., Accenture, Deloitte, etc.).
  • Extensive career experience as a consultant, in operations or within proximity to operations, with a 30:70 ratio of business to technology experience, working with the IT life cycle, including delivery and cost of ownership and experience developing roadmaps and business cases, as well as executing projects through to completion.
  • Master analytical and communication skills and knowledge of planning.
  • Ability to influence, build relationships, negotiate and set priorities needed.
  • Strong executive presence.
  • Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
  • Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

  • Explores industry for technology developments that are relevant for Nationwide’s business; identifies innovation opportunities and follows through to develop the ideas in collaboration with business partners and external organizations.
  • Manages the portfolio of technology innovation efforts in partnership with other Nationwide teams engaged in innovation-related activities.
  • Highest level of collaboration with others to ensure the technology innovations align with the business strategy.
  • Quantifies benefits and develops business-case for technology transformation efforts and/or innovation initiatives.
  • Evaluates and prioritizes business critical requests, determining appropriate course of action (e.g. adjusts existing roadmaps, base camps, iterative planning efforts or delivers through small projects and/or enhancement efforts).
  • Executes complex projects that result in recommendations to change business processes through the application of technologies and more efficient use of resources.
  • Plans high-complexity engagements focused on building recommendations and business cases.
  • Leads Nationwide’s Technology strategic planning, gathers high-level business requirements and defines scope during initial discovery by conducting meetings/interviews and facilitating large group/cross-functional sessions with partners.
  • Maintains knowledge of multiple business functions and initiatives to identify where conflicts/synergies exist between technologies and business functions.
  • Develops, shares and leverages key technology and innovation practices across Nationwide Technology.
  • Manages initial vendor relationships and maintains a forward-looking view of vendor direction.
  • Partners with vendors to understand whether products will meet business and/or technology requirements.
  • Drives the decomposition of business strategic plans into outcomes, values and capabilities.
  • Demonstrates top-level expertise on the current and future directions of the relevant industry and associated technologies, and, where appropriate, makes recommendations for implementation of new or upgraded systems and technologies.
  • Leads planning efforts, collaborates with top business leaders/experts to conduct complex analysis and build artifacts that lead to deliverables.
  • Responsible for business solution area awareness; determines how changes may impact roadmaps; then facilitates roadmap updates.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
