Sr. Compiler Software Development Engineer

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•San Jose, CA

About The Position

AMD is seeking a motivated engineer to develop a machine learning model compiler for AMD AIE in Ryzen AI PC and embedded FPGA devices. The compiler will take models in ONNX or PyTorch and produce optimized control and executable code for an AIE VLIW processor array. It will also partition work across x86, embedded processor, and FPGA fabric components and generate code that interfaces with AMD AIE runtime and driver. The role involves integrating compilers and compiled models with machine learning frameworks, implementing model partitioning and runtime functionality, developing AMD technologies, and debugging and improving existing solutions. The ideal candidate is passionate about software development and communicates and works effectively with teams across AMD.

Requirements

  • Strong object-oriented programming background, including C/C++ and Python.
  • Experience with compiler building.
  • Ability to write high-quality code with keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer/Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of ML compiler and runtime technologies such as MLIR and LLVM.
  • Experience with code generation for a machine learning hardware accelerator.
  • Machine learning concepts and model development experience.
  • Understanding of ONNX, PyTorch, or similar frameworks.
  • Experience with modern concurrent programming and threading APIs.
  • Experience with software development processes and tools such as debuggers, source code control systems (GitHub), and profilers.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate the compiler and compiled models with machine learning frameworks such as ONNX and PyTorch.
  • Implement model partitioning in machine learning frameworks and/or MLIR.
  • Implement runtime functionality to distribute work to and collect results from x86 cores and AIE cores.
  • Design and develop new AMD technologies.
  • Debug and fix existing issues and research more efficient ways to accomplish the same work.

Benefits

  • Benefits are described in AMD benefits at a glance.
