Sr. Software Development Engineer

PitchBook Data•Seattle, WA
•$175,000 - $215,000•Onsite

About The Position

As a Senior Software Development Engineer on PitchBook’s Data Platform team, you will design and build backend systems that ingest, correlate, enrich, and serve billions of records across customer-facing products. You will own components of a complex, high-scale distributed platform end-to-end, from design through production, and contribute as a trusted technical voice. This is a backend-heavy, hands-on role focused on scale, correctness, latency, and data quality across pipelines processing records from multiple external sources. The role requires working autonomously on complex problems, turning ambiguity into engineering plans, and balancing delivery speed with sound design. You will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data science partners in an Agile environment. The position is expected to be performed onsite in the Seattle office five days per week. It is based in a standard office setting, with ongoing use of a PC and phone throughout the day. Limited corporate travel to remote offices or business meetings and events may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field.
  • At least 5 years of software engineering experience, predominantly in backend systems.
  • At least 5 years of Java development experience, including production microservices.
  • At least 4 years of experience with Spring Boot or Spring Framework.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without needing visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to work onsite in Seattle.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience with Kafka or comparable streaming or messaging platforms.
  • Solid experience with PostgreSQL or other relational databases at meaningful data volumes.
  • Familiarity with large-scale data ingestion, transformation, or enrichment pipelines; entity resolution, deduplication, or data quality experience is a strong plus.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration, such as Docker and Kubernetes, in production environments.
  • Experience with AWS and/or GCP.
  • Proficiency in RESTful API design.
  • Experience with unit and integration testing and a strong belief in test coverage as a quality bar.
  • Comfort working with distributed systems concepts, including fault tolerance, eventual consistency, backpressure, and at-least-once delivery.
  • Familiarity with domain-driven design and service-oriented architecture patterns.
  • Familiarity with AI and LLMs, including the ability to evaluate tools, run experiments, and apply them pragmatically.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate technical decisions to peers and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain backend services and data pipelines that ingest, transform, enrich, and index large-scale company and person data.
  • Own features and system components end-to-end, from requirements and design through implementation, testing, and production support.
  • Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code that meets performance, scalability, and reliability standards.
  • Contribute to architecture and technical design discussions, identify tradeoffs, and advocate for sound engineering decisions.
  • Perform code reviews and provide meaningful technical feedback to peers.
  • Support production systems through deployments, troubleshooting, and incident response.
  • Apply AI tooling to improve development, testing, and delivery efficiency, and experiment with LLM-powered capabilities where relevant to the platform.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and data science partners in an Agile environment.
  • Support the company’s vision and values by role modeling and encouraging desired behaviors.
  • Participate in company initiatives and projects as requested.
