This role involves providing strategic and architectural support as a Subject Matter Expert for Design Services and the State of Michigan Cloud Strategy. The engineer will identify critical business functions, build relationships across teams, and consult with various specialists to ensure compliance with department policies and the technology roadmap. Responsibilities include leading the development of technical artifacts, producing architectural framework documents, and representing architecture in project planning. The role requires a broad understanding of technology areas and end-to-end knowledge of current installations to craft enterprise-wide architectural solutions and standards. Additionally, the engineer will define and build hypotheses around steady-state behavior, run experiments to assess impact, and build automation for orchestration and analysis. Expertise is needed in adhering to best practice security framework controls and regulatory compliance requirements. The role also involves assisting with cloud infrastructure design, developing architecture models for test, development, and production environments, communicating complex technical concepts, designing cloud cost management solutions, providing performance analysis and troubleshooting, and designing/testing large-scale workload and data migrations. Direct support will be provided to technical and non-technical entities for requirements definition and solution delivery, including environment deployment, upgrades, performance tuning, testing, and disaster recovery. Integration with on-premises technologies from various vendors is also a key aspect.
