About The Position

This position is responsible for planning, reviewing, and controlling all activities and functions of clinical transformation by using Information Technology to continually assess and improve the way patient care is delivered. The Senior Clinical Informaticist will drive clinical transformation through careful analysis of current processes and workflows and change management strategies that align with Memorial Hermann’s strategic plan, values, and objectives. The role involves leveraging available resources, metrics, benchmarks, system standards, policies, and procedures across the system to achieve transformation. The Senior CI demonstrates informatics knowledge and skills required in a large, complex corporate Information System to ensure the efficient, effective, and consistent delivery of high-quality services. They will work closely with system, service line, and facility leadership to assist in the design of the clinical information systems (CIS) and build consensus around processes, workflows, and content. This role is ideal for an experienced clinical professional, preferably a Registered Nurse, with strong Epic knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for bridging the gap between clinical operations and technology. The Senior Clinical Informaticist will play a key role in advancing clinical documentation and workflow optimization by partnering with nursing, providers, operational leaders, and Information Systems to enhance the use of Epic across the organization. They will lead clinical informatics and quality improvement initiatives, analyze workflows, identify opportunities for process optimization, and ensure system enhancements align with regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and quality standards. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams is essential to implement sustainable solutions that improve clinician efficiency, support high-quality patient care, and drive adoption of best practices.

Requirements

Clinical degree in Nursing, Pharmacy, Medicine, or equivalent or Bachelors or higher in informatics are required
Requires at least three (3) years of experience with applied clinical informatics, including change management, project management, quality improvement methods and tools, data analysis methods and tools, decision support methods and tools
At least three (3) years of experience in direct patient care setting using Clinical Information Systems preferred
Experience in the implementation of large and complex Information Systems in a healthcare environment
Advanced knowledge of information technology and Microsoft Office tools, including a working knowledge of Microsoft or equivalent workflow documentation tool
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Ability to effectively work individually and in a team with all levels of the organization
Effective Customer Relationship Management Skills necessary for efficient problem resolution to maximize customer satisfaction
Ability to understand concepts and translate them into actions

Nice To Haves

RN with direct patient care experience preferred.
Epic certification or strong Epic optimization experience (ClinDoc preferred).
Experience in clinical informatics, workflow optimization, and project management.
Knowledge of clinical documentation, quality, and regulatory compliance.
Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to analyze workflows, solve complex problems, and drive process improvements.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Epic Certification or Accreditation in Clinical Informatics, Clinical Builder, or Clinical Applications modules is preferred.
Preferred license in a clinical discipline; Certification in clinical/health informatics preferred
Working knowledge with at least one (1) year experience with eLearning tools such as Adobe Captivate, Adobe Connect, or equivalent is preferred.

Responsibilities

Leads the development of an overall strategy to clinical transformation by using CIS technology, and participates in development for Memorial Hermann.
Plans, organizes, and assists in CIS implementations, and the infrastructure required to support these applications, to meet current and future technology needs and support the business goals and objectives of Memorial Hermann.
Identifies opportunities for optimization of clinical processes leading to increased efficiencies and reduced unnecessary variation.
Actively seeks input from physicians, nurses, and other professionals to identify problems, design and implement solutions, and communicate the findings to the clinical staff, Chief Nursing Office (CNO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Information Systems Divisions (ISD) leadership.
Works to increase utility, promote adoption, create sustainability of the CIS through multi-disciplinary teams, and create an infrastructure for reporting quality information.
Maintains a good communication line between Facility Administration and Departments, System Executives, Service Lines, System Councils and Committees, and Information Systems, promoting the Informatics and Information Systems Division’s credibility and value in the organization.
Supports all requests for projects, service requests, and problem tickets through the established channels within Informatics and Information Systems Division.
Assists with defining project metrics of success for technology deployments.
Provides high quality technology and change management consulting services ensuring data integrity, vocabulary consistency, and optimizing report methods while maintaining the high standards of the Informatics and Information Systems Division.
Actively participates with implementation team(s) during installation of new computer functions or enhancements to existing functions which affect diagnostic and clinical areas.
Assumes shared responsibility for the success of assigned projects.
Demonstrates and presents system functions and capabilities to visitors and other audiences, presenting the leading edge and comprehensive nature of Memorial Hermann.
Demonstrates successful use of Informatics and Information Systems Division procedures when working on project teams, including use of planned agendas, project plans, and minutes of regularly scheduled meetings.
Maintains/develops other administrative and communication skills such as conducting meetings, writing and speaking clearly and in a businesslike manner.
Responsible for translating process and workflow decisions into educational materials, leveraging change management and adult learning principles.
Works closely with the Support Services, Facility Informatics Team, ISD Project Managers, and ISD analysts to coordinate the strategic changes determined by the clinical leadership/executive team and IS leadership.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
