About The Position

Farm Family is seeking a highly capable Senior Claims Specialist to join their team. This role is responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of general liability claims, including some commercial auto claims. The Specialist will assess coverage, contact customers, investigate loss facts, arrange inspections and experts, collect information, and negotiate settlements. Compliance with insurance regulations, statutes, and case law is required. The role involves close collaboration with other departments, vendors, and defense counsel. This is a 100% in-office position, requiring candidates to work on-site at a designated company office during standard business hours. The position contributes to providing superb results for clients by adjudicating claims with a direct impact on team achievement, providing superior claims outcomes, and developing strong connections with insureds and brokers. The role requires analyzing claims forms, policies, and endorsements to determine coverage, investigating claims promptly, managing diaries for timely resolution, creating and reviewing reserves, determining appropriate inspection methods, and coordinating expertise resources. Ensuring compliance with state regulations and settling straightforward claims within authority limits are key responsibilities. The Specialist will negotiate effectively for cost-effective solutions, prepare escalation notices, present claims to the Claims Committee, and report on claims trends to management and underwriters. Processing mail, prioritizing workload, and completing correspondence are also part of the duties. A passion for strong claim management is essential.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university required.
  • Two or more insurance designations or four additional years of related experience adjudicating bodily injury claims beyond the minimum experience required below may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • A minimum of two years' experience adjudicating claims is required, preferably with general liability and commercial auto claims experience.
  • Must be able to obtain necessary state licenses and maintain Continuing Education (CE) requirements as needed.
  • Must have good business acumen (i.e. understand how an insurance company works and makes money, including how this role impacts both Farm Family and our customers’ ability to be profitable).
  • Ability to regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.

  • Proven ability to consistently produce and deliver expected results to all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Adjudicate first-party property damage claims with a direct impact on the overall achievement of results for the team.
  • Provide laser-focused customer service to our clients by providing superior claims outcomes and developing meaningful and long-lasting connections with our insured and brokers.
  • Analyze claims forms, policies and endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine whether the loss falls within the policy coverage.
  • Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing all involved parties in order to determine the facts of the loss.
  • Manage diary timely and complete tasks to ensure that cases move to the best financial outcome and timely resolution.
  • Create and continuously review reserves in line with market and Farm Family's reserving policy.
  • Determine the appropriate method of inspection or review of facts.
  • Identify, assign, and coordinate the assignment and coordination of expertise resources to assist in case resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with state regulations and requirements.
  • Settle straightforward claims in line with authority limits and adhere to organizational referral procedures.
  • Negotiate in a timely and effective manner to provide cost effective solutions for the company and its customers within own limits using a range of negotiation styles.
  • Prepare escalation notices and present claims to Claims Committee.
  • Report to claims management and underwriters on claims trends and developments.
  • Process mail and prioritize workload.
  • Complete telephone calls and written correspondence to/from various parties (insured, claimant, etc.).
  • Demonstrate an understanding of mechanisms available for resolving claims settlement disputes (e.g. arbitration and mediation) and when these are used.
  • Exercise sound judgment working under technical direction.
