Zachry Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to support large, complex Power and Industrial projects based in Omaha, Nebraska. This role serves as a senior technical authority responsible for structural design excellence, reviewer oversight, and risk-informed engineering execution across EPC and FEED/FEL project phases. The position combines hands-on structural design leadership, technical mentorship, and cross-discipline coordination, with accountability for constructability, code compliance, and safety—both permanent and temporary structures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited four-year university with a concentration in structural design
  • 10+ years of structural engineering experience in Power and Industrial projects (minimum 7 years with PE registration)
  • Strong technical background in structural steel, reinforced concrete, and foundations for industrial facilities
  • Demonstrated experience working in fast-paced EPC or design-build project environments
  • Deep understanding of engineering, construction, and project execution principles
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Authorization to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now or in the future
  • Ability to relocate to Omaha, Nebraska within 30 days

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license
  • Proficiency with industry-standard structural analysis software, including: AutoCAD, STAAD.Pro, RISA, Enercalc or similar tools
  • Familiarity with 3D design and visualization platforms such as Navisworks
  • Experience supporting large capital industrial or power generation projects
  • Strong understanding of project risk, constructability, and field execution challenges

Responsibilities

  • Lead and provide technical guidance throughout the structural design and engineering process, frequently serving as the senior reviewer for calculations, models, and complex technical deliverables
  • Coordinate, review, and approve building and structural design plans, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, ordinances, regulations, and project standards
  • Serve as a technical mentor by providing discipline-specific expertise, including the development and delivery of training for junior and mid-level structural engineers
  • Prepare and review advanced engineering deliverables such as: Structural calculations and reports, Technical studies and design narratives, Tables, charts, and engineering summaries, Sketches, cross-sections, and 2D/3D structural illustrations
  • Develop comprehensive structural engineering reports and presentations that clearly communicate technical concepts, research findings, risks, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Analyze data obtained during site investigations and contribute to the development of action plans addressing moderate- to high-risk conditions, including constructability and geotechnical interfaces
  • Interface confidently and professionally with architects, consultants, clients, contractors, and internal leadership
  • Maintain full responsibility for the design and safety of temporary structures used during construction activities
  • Evaluate construction costs, environmental constraints, and regulatory requirements during planning, design, and risk analysis phases
  • Perform material take-offs for steel and concrete on industrial and power generation projects
  • Develop and review technical specifications and scopes of work for: Structural steel, Reinforced and mass concrete, Geotechnical systems and construction materials
  • Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods, adapting established techniques where appropriate using sound professional judgment
  • Travel to project sites to conduct walkdowns, support construction activities, and assist with commissioning or field engineering efforts
  • Coordinate closely with other engineering disciplines, construction, procurement, and external partners to ensure work is delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Zachry quality standards
