About The Position

This Senior Calibration Technician/Team Lead position is the highest-level technician role, requiring significant experience in calibration, troubleshooting, and adjustment of complex equipment across multiple disciplines. The role involves independent work in labs or at customer sites, and a leadership component focused on managing and leading others, with a career path towards advancement in lab management. The position requires strong interpersonal skills and the ability to train and advise lower-level technicians, assist in production management, and partner with lab management on strategic initiatives and process improvements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of six (6) years commercial calibration experience preferred
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and adjust higher-level equipment across a minimum of eight (8) disciplines, with expert knowledge in three (3) disciplines (e.g., Electrical, Dimensional, or Pressure)
  • Proficiency and expertise determined in accordance with Transcat’s technician skills progression matrix
  • Capable of completing work independently within the lab or onsite at a customer location, with limited or no guidance
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage and lead others
  • Successful completion of assigned training materials through on-the-job training, online content, LMS, and classroom led instruction

  • 3+ years driving experience with a valid driver’s license
  • Associates degree from college or technical school, or 6+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience working within ISO 17025 and exposure responding to assessment bodies in the ISO 17025 accreditation
  • Advanced understanding of creating, maintaining, and editing uncertainty budgets

Nice To Haves

  • CCT or CMT certification is desired
  • Working knowledge and competency in eight (8) disciplines and expert in three (3) disciplines preferred
  • Six+ (6+) years of commercial calibration experience
  • CCT or CMT certification
  • Extensive statistical background
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer software including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Completion of appropriate leadership or management coursework
  • Experience in PMEL, PME, TMDE, Metrology, Calibration, ASQ CCT, METCAL, GPETE, Electronics, GCAMS, or Avionics

Responsibilities

  • Perform calibration work with little to no supervision
  • Train, advise, and lead lower-level technicians
  • Assist in production management, training, automation and leadership of key processes within the lab
  • Partner with lab management on process improvement and strategic initiatives
  • Conduct independent research when necessary
  • Coordinate and manage daily workloads without direction from manager
  • Identify and utilize appropriate measurement techniques
  • Maintain calibration standards
  • Understand and apply uncertainties to measurements made
  • Be able to read and interpret labs’ scopes of accreditation
  • Work effectively with lab support staff
  • Perform calibrations within a laboratory or customer onsite setting
  • Work at customer on-sites with little to no direction
  • Fulfill duties safely under working conditions, in keeping with Company requirements and standards
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Coordinate work schedule for the lab
  • Prepare detailed analysis of calibration processes and uncertainties
  • Develop and implement process improvements
