About The Position

The Sr. Buyer leads end-to-end procurement activities for both engineered-to-order products and standard manufactured goods in a complex manufacturing environment. This role drives supplier performance, negotiates contracts, and ensures timely material availability to support production schedules and customer delivery commitments. The Sr. Buyer partners closely with Engineering, Operations, Production Planning, Quality, and Sales to support complex manufacturing projects while optimizing cost, quality, and delivery outcomes.

Requirements

  • 5–7+ years of purchasing, sourcing, or procurement experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience supporting both engineered/custom products and standard production materials.
  • Negotiation skills with hands-on experience in supplier management and contract administration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in purchasing and procurement processes, including purchase order management and vendor management.
  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, with experience in SAGE or similar platforms preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material (BOMs).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills applied to cost analysis, spend data, and supplier performance.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Clear and effective communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and supplier interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Procure materials and components tied to customer orders to meet required delivery timelines.
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for custom-engineered components, fabricated parts, and standard production materials.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage supplier relationships, including ongoing performance monitoring and development.
  • Negotiate pricing, contracts, lead times, and service agreements to ensure cost efficiency and continuity of supply.
  • Issue and manage purchase orders, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and on-time delivery.
  • Collaborate with Engineering on new product introductions, design changes, and sourcing of custom components.
  • Partner with Production Planning and Operations to align material availability with production schedules and demand changes.
  • Monitor and resolve supplier issues related to delivery, quality, and cost performance.
  • Analyze spend data to identify cost savings opportunities, supplier consolidation, and process improvements.
  • Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier data, and material information within ERP/MRP systems.
  • Support monthly inventory reconciliation in coordination with Production Management.
  • Lead supplier performance reviews and implement corrective actions when expectations are not met.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, contracts, and applicable regulations throughout the procurement process.
  • Mentor and support purchasing team members, sharing best practices and providing guidance as needed.
  • Develop, track, and report on key procurement metrics, including supplier performance, cost savings initiatives, and on-time delivery.
