About The Position

This position is responsible for supporting and driving business development initiatives and supporting the growth of Mitsui group companies through cross-functional collaboration with MUSA business divisions, Mitsui-Tokyo, invested portfolio companies, and external partners. The role also involves supporting group operating companies in the timely execution of business strategies, including achievement of quantitative and qualitative objectives, and identifying and developing new business opportunities—including investments and partnerships—in the Food and Retail industries. The incumbent will work closely with the department General Manager (GM), other senior division leaders, and the management teams of Mitsui group companies.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of business development experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
  • Strong analytical capabilities, including analysis of industry trends, market data, business plans, and financial statements.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across functions and stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate diverse stakeholder interests; collaborative and solutions oriented.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments and managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated interest in long-term career growth within Mitsui or Mitsui-owned businesses.
  • Ability to understand and operate effectively within Mitsui’s business culture and in cross-cultural environments.

Responsibilities

  • Researches, evaluates, and synthesizes information on new business opportunities for Mitsui USA; contributes to the development and execution of Mitsui’s global Food and Retail strategy.
  • Identifies high-potential, synergistic opportunities in the Food and Retail sector through comprehensive research, financial/market analysis, and effective use of internal and external networks.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with prospective partners; Supports the development and execution of business development strategies in the Food and Retail sector.
  • Supports business development projects in collaboration with stakeholders in the U.S. and Tokyo and with Mitsui-owned operating companies, including supporting strategy development, operational improvement, financial investments, post-merger integration (PMI), and new business launches.
  • Supports growth initiatives across group assets by identifying and capturing synergies; may be seconded to a group company to support execution and value creation.
  • Provides timely insights on U.S. Food and Retail market and industry developments with global Mitsui stakeholders.
  • Travels as required, including to Mitsui group locations domestically and internationally and for training programs, as applicable.
  • Works under the guidance of the GM and senior leadership while independently managing assigned workstreams.
  • Participates in assignments and projects as requested by GM and/or senior leadership.
