About The Position

American Crystal Sugar is seeking a motivated Sr. Business Applications Developer at their corporate office in Moorhead who will provide product and technical ownership and lifecycle management for assigned business applications through a combination of software development, business process analysis, solution design, system integration, and application support activities. This position serves as a primary product and technical resource for assigned business processes and applications, partnering with business stakeholders, analysts, software developers, vendors, and other IT team members to deliver reliable and maintainable business solutions. The Sr. Business Applications Developer is expected to understand both the business processes and technical components that support assigned applications and is accountable for supporting, enhancing, validating, and evolving those solutions over time. This position performs hands-on software development while also participating in requirements gathering, solution design, testing, implementation, production support, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in software development, business application development, systems implementation, or related technical disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and supporting business applications in a production environment.
  • Experience collaborating directly with business stakeholders to gather requirements, analyze business processes, and implement technical solutions.
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting application integrations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to independently prioritize work across multiple assignments and competing business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) business applications.
  • Experience working with ERP, operational, manufacturing, agricultural, logistics, accounting, laboratory, or enterprise business systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and modern integration technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary technical resource for assigned business applications and business capabilities.
  • Develops deep understanding of the business processes, data flows, interfaces, integrations, and operational requirements supported by assigned applications.
  • Maintains awareness of application health, application changes, technical debt, enhancement opportunities, and production issues affecting assigned systems.
  • Works independently and collaboratively as a subject matter expert for assigned applications and their related business processes.
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders to understand operational challenges, process requirements, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Assists in defining and documenting functional and technical requirements for application enhancements, integrations, and new solutions.
  • Participates in solution design activities to ensure proposed solutions align with business requirements, supportability goals, and existing system capabilities.
  • Evaluates alternative approaches and makes recommendations regarding process improvements, software enhancements, system integrations, and vendor solutions.
  • Designs, develops, tests, deploys, and maintains custom software applications, integrations, APIs, tooling, and related technical solutions.
  • Creates clean, maintainable, secure, and supportable software solutions following established development standards and best practices.
  • Participates in code reviews, troubleshooting activities, software testing, and deployment planning.
  • Develops technical documentation for software applications, integrations, support procedures, and development artifacts.
  • Designs, develops, supports, and maintains integrations between business applications, databases, cloud services, vendor platforms, and enterprise systems.
  • Designs, implements, maintains COTS and custom tooling to perform data validation, data mapping, and integration troubleshooting activities.
  • Leads and/or assists in identifying integration opportunities that improve operational effectiveness and reduce manual effort.
  • Works collaboratively with internal and external resources to ensure timely and accurate movement of data between business systems.
  • Develops test plans, validation procedures, and deployment activities for software enhancements and new solutions.
  • Coordinates and participates in system testing, user acceptance testing, regression testing, and production implementations.
  • Produces and maintains test automations to ensure reduce effort and time needed to complete test regressions.
  • Ensures software solutions meet documented business requirements and quality expectations.
  • Supports training, communication, and transition-to-support activities associated with application changes.
  • Provides level-II and level-III support for assigned applications and integrations.
  • Investigates and resolves application issues while minimizing business disruption.
  • Participates in on-call support activities as assigned.
  • Works with business users, vendors, and IT resources to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve application reliability, maintainability, usability, and operational efficiency.
  • Participates in modernization efforts and technology adoption initiatives as appropriate.
  • Contributes to development standards, application support practices, and team knowledge sharing activities.
  • Maintains awareness of emerging technologies, tools, and industry practices relevant to assigned systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.
