Sr. Backend Engineer

Corvus AI•New York City, NY
•Onsite

About The Position

Corvus is tackling a critical problem for the $1T chemical manufacturing industry: enabling salespeople to understand which products from their portfolio can be sold into specific accounts. This requires significant research or customer interaction to identify opportunities based on product SKUs and their underlying chemistries. Corvus provides this visibility by combining agent-powered research workflows with a proprietary dataset of US manufacturers. This allows sales representatives to find cross-sell opportunities, sales leaders to prioritize markets, and companies to track SKU-level penetration. The company has experienced rapid growth, with a 6x increase in revenue and a 3x increase in customer count in the last six months, and has retained all initial customers who have also expanded their business. Corvus works with major chemical distributors and manufacturers and is seeking to scale further.

Requirements

  • 6-10 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Deep relational database expertise (preferably Postgres).
  • Strong TypeScript or Python skills.
  • Experience designing a canonical data model that has evolved through changes like new data sources, entity types, merges, and splits.
  • Experience building or owning entity resolution, deduplication, or reconciliation logic.
  • Understanding of tradeoffs between deterministic rules, probabilistic matching, and human review.
  • Experience building resiliency into systems (queues, retries, idempotency, observability).
  • Experience using AI tooling as a core part of the development process.
  • Curiosity about how data should be structured for agents to work with it.
  • Pragmatic approach to scaling, knowing what not to build yet and explaining reasoning clearly.
  • Excited about working in person with the team in NYC, 5 days a week.

Nice To Haves

  • You don't need to be an AI engineer, but the stack shouldn't be foreign to you.

Responsibilities

  • Design and own the systems and data model for Corvus's growing dataset of manufacturers, facilities, products, and people, ensuring data correctness and consistency.
  • Enable agents and research workflows to build and iterate on top of the data.
  • Own the architecture decisions that will enable future product development and scaling.
  • Build the knowledge graph for the chemical manufacturing industry by designing a data model that creates a coherent, queryable picture of data points.
  • Make agents the primary users of the platform, defining best practices for this interaction.
  • Scale the system to accommodate growth from a handful of customers to many, making strategic decisions about what to build now versus defer.
  • Work directly with the co-founders, hearing customer problems firsthand, deciding system implications, and owning work from design through production.
  • Talk to customers to understand their needs and inform technical decisions.

Benefits

  • 10x growth over the past year
  • Architectural ownership of the data layer, which is the company's core asset.
  • Work in a small team with high agency and a high bar for self-performance.
  • Systems that go from your branch to production without intermediaries.
