About The Position

Provide legal analysis and advice to internal clients regarding utility infrastructure access and attachment rights, state and federal rules and regulations, and network operations. Advocate, negotiate and educate as an external advocate working with other public sector attorneys and officials. The appropriate candidate will work well in a team environment and show a demonstrated interest in utility infrastructure and the regulation of the same.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
  • Attorney’s License. Admitted in state where office is located, or able to gain admission or comply with applicable in-house counsel registration requirements.
  • A minimum of four (4) years’ experience working in a utility, planning, zoning, land use or implementation capacity directly for a utility, telecommunications provider, government entity or in private legal or consulting practice serving such entities; equivalent in a comparable industry or relevant military experience.
  • Comfortable presenting complex material at a level appropriate to the particular audience.
  • Experience in navigating corporate or military command structures and working within a corporate environment.
  • Sound, reasoned business judgment; comfortable “being an owner” and making strategic decisions considering both legal and business factors.
  • Litigation or litigation support experience.
  • Experience working with design teams, preparation of permits drawings and construction documents, and construction.
  • Experience presenting and speaking in public and/or before governmental entities.
  • Team player able to build effective relationships and operate autonomously with minimal administrative support.
  • Ability to work independently, including with remote supervision
  • Ability to work with individuals of diverse background, personalities and opinions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Nice To Haves

  • Telecommunications (including wireless) industry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal analysis, advice, and training to internal clients on existing and emerging state and federal issues impacting the deployment of telecommunications facilities in/on utility infrastructure.
  • Draft comments or, as needed, work with outside counsel to draft and submit comments on proposed rules and regulations impacting the deployment of telecommunications facilities in/on utility infrastructure.
  • Attend and/or support internal and external meetings designed to address legal or regulatory issues impacting the deployment of telecommunications facilities in/on utility infrastructure.
  • Edit or, as needed, draft external correspondence designed to address legal issues impacting the deployment of telecommunications facilities in/on utility infrastructure.
