About The Position

Schlaupitz Madhavan, P.C. (SMCPA) is seeking an ambitious and motivated on-site Senior Audit & Assurance Associate to support our growing Audit & Assurance practice. As a Senior Audit & Assurance Associate, you will complete a variety of audit, review, and compilation engagements in accordance with applicable professional standards. You will work closely with managers, partners, and team members while gaining hands-on experience across a range of client engagements. This position offers opportunities to support junior associates with opportunities of developing into a future leader within the firm.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Four or more years of progressive public accounting experience with a focus on audit and assurance.
  • Demonstrated progress toward CPA licensure.
  • Experience with compilation and review engagements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with engagement management software such as CaseWare or Engagement.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with managers, partners, and clients.
  • Comfortable working with technology and learning new systems, tools, and processes.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current technical knowledge.

  • IFRS knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Execute audit, review, compilation, and other assurance engagements in accordance with applicable GAAS, SSARS, and firm standards, delivering accurate, high-quality work from planning through completion.
  • Take ownership of assigned engagements or engagement areas, keeping work on track, within budget, and aligned with client deadlines and expectations.
  • Prepare and review key engagement deliverables, including workpapers, financial statements, audit communication letters, management representation letters, and other required documentation.
  • Research and resolve accounting, financial reporting, and auditing matters, applying sound professional judgment with limited supervision.
  • Manage audit engagements across a variety of industries, including nonprofit organizations, employee benefit plans, HUD engagements, and privately held companies.
  • Build strong client and team relationships by collaborating with managers, partners, and colleagues throughout engagement execution, reporting, and client communications.
  • Review staff work as appropriate and support the development of junior team members through coaching, collaboration, and constructive feedback.
  • Apply knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GAAS, SSARS, and financial statement presentation while staying current on changes in accounting and auditing standards.
  • Contribute during peak periods by balancing competing priorities, adapting to changing workloads, and working additional hours when needed to meet client commitments.
  • Travel occasionally to client locations, including year-end physical inventory observations, with expected travel of up to 20%.
