About The Position

The Sr. Architect role within Global Properties & Services (GPS) is a strategic leadership position responsible for shaping Kohler's built environment through holistic, sustainable, and high-performance design solutions. Serving as a senior architectural interface, this role leads early-stage project intake, discovery, and conceptual design, translating complex operational and business needs into integrated architectural strategies aligned with enterprise sustainability and modernization objectives. The Sr. Architect provides technical leadership across cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and sustainability, ensuring cohesive, efficient, and forward-thinking facility solutions. With a strong emphasis on stakeholder engagement, design innovation, and environmental stewardship, this role also mentors team members, influences enterprise design standards, and drives alignment from concept through execution to deliver long-term value to the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture from an accredited NAAB program.
  • Architectural licensure (RA) preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in architectural design field
  • Strong experience leading design and coordinating closely with MEP and structural engineers
  • Sustainability subject matter expertise; LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP credential desired.
  • Familiarity with codes and standards (IBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, IECC, etc.).
  • Proficiency in BIM workflows and design tools (Revit preferred).
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary architectural point of contact for internal stakeholders initiating facilities projects of small to mid-sized scopes.
  • Lead project discovery to understand functional requirements, operational drivers, sustainability targets, and constraints.
  • Conduct on-site assessments, building evaluations, and feasibility reviews that inform architectural and MEP design directions.
  • Coordinate closely with internal engineering teams to ensure unified scope and integrated design recommendations from the outset.
  • Develop conceptual architectural designs that balance innovative design and technologies, operational performance, and user experience.
  • Coordinate high-level spatial planning, building envelope strategies, material selections, and system integration.
  • Translate design concepts into design review presentations utilizing various 2D and 3D visualization tools.
  • Collaborate with internal or external MEP, controls, and structural engineering teams to produce fully coordinated conceptual design narratives, diagrams, and performance criteria for handoff to execution teams.
  • Ensure alignment with Kohler’s sustainability goals, energy efficiency standards, and long-term modernization strategies.
  • Identify opportunities early to integrate energy-efficient and sustainable design principles into conceptual strategies
  • Act as an internal subject matter expert on sustainable materials, architectural best practices, whole-building performance tools, and emerging sustainability standards.
  • Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, GPS Engineering, and Sustainable Living teams to strengthen enterprise sustainability strategies.
  • Oversee development and documentation for LEED, WELL, Fitwel, or other certification pathways.
  • Build strong relationships with Operations, Maintenance, EHS, Sustainable Living, and other internal stakeholders to understand programmatic and functional needs.
  • Provide clear, communicative bridges between stakeholders, architects, engineers, and leadership teams throughout design phases.
  • Present conceptual solutions and recommendations to senior leaders and project sponsors for decision-making.
  • Coordinate the hand-off of complete design documents to Project Management and Engineering teams for execution. Remain engaged and responsive throughout execution phases.
  • Maintain exceptionally close collaboration with internal engineering teams to ensure integrated building solutions.
  • Review engineering concepts for architectural impacts and facilitate cross-discipline alignment.
  • Drive technical clarity during design, ensuring feasibility and adherence to standards.
  • Maintain expertise in industry trends, sustainable technologies, construction methods, and applicable building codes.
  • Mentor junior architectural and interior design staff, as well as engineering team members, in conceptual design thinking, design visualization, and sustainability integration.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration across construction project management, architectural, interior, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and structural disciplines.
