Sr Aquatic Specialist - Eastway Regional Recreation Center
About The Position
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is excited to add a Sr Aquatic Specialist to the team! This full-time position will be based at Eastway Regional Recreation Center and will be an integral part of our Aquatics team. The incumbent will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and instructing a variety of aquatic recreation and leisure programs, activities, and events for diversified age groups, such as swimming lessons, water aerobics and aquatic summer camps. The incumbent will also participate in overseeing staff trainings and scheduling as well as providing additional support on the pool decks. In addition, they will be crucial in maintaining strong relationships with our community and seeking input on current and future aquatic programs. This position will work a rotating schedule to include daytime hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business and facility needs. Requirements
- Minimum two (2) years related experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- Combination of relevant experience and relevant education accepted
- Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License and County Driving Privileges
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Lifeguard Certification
- Ability to obtain Lifeguard Instructor Certification and Swim Instructor Certification within 6 months of hire
- Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite
- Aquatic recreational programming and instruction knowledge
- Skills in applying recreational knowledge through hands-on activities
- Skills in developing and enforcing general rules and safety procedure
- Skills in managing multiple tasks concurrently
- Skills in communicating effectively both orally and in writing
- Skills in organizing and presenting demonstrations in area of specialization

- Lifeguard Instructor Certification highly preferred

Responsibilities
- Assist in supervision of activities in an aquatic environment, recreation center or park facility
- Develop, evaluate and lead programs and activities in an aquatic facility, recreation center or park facility
- Provide customer service and handling of funds in a recreation center or park facility through telephone, emails, web site, social media and walk in patrons and customers for information, program registration, center daily use and rentals
- Supervise part-time and temporary employees, including scheduling, coaching and annual reviews
- Assist with monitoring the assigned center's budget, contracts and compliance
- Develop and coordinate a wide range of recreation and leisure programs for a diverse audience
- Assist with development of, maintenance repair of equipment and inventory needs
- Partner with community leaders to ensure quality programs within the community
- Secure instructors and/or volunteers for programs
- Advertise programs via radio stations, flyers, Public Service Announcements, banner, and internet
- Assist with department events
- Approve program proposals
- Complete Monthly safety checklists
- Communicate effectively with school site administration if located at a satellite site.
- Ensure safety of participants/spectators and administer first aid when necessary
- Collect fees and taking registrations for recreational programs and facility rentals
- Handle inquiries and complaints from public
- May serve as the manager on duty
