About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Sr. Air Conditioning Mechanic for a position on Kauai, HI. Under general direction of a supervisor or lead person, this role performs air conditioning and refrigeration preventive/corrective maintenance, service call work and new construction installations in support of the PMRF project. The Mechanic will be required to work alone or as a team and able to complete work assignments from verbal instructions, written work orders, drawings, sketches and blueprints while complying with federal, state, and local codes and PMRF procedures and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight years of progressive work experience in the specified field, with a minimum of four experience at the Senior or equivalent level required.
  • Possess an EPA Universal Certification.
  • Possess a Hawaii State Drivers License.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, maintaining and repairing direct expansion, chill water systems, split and package type systems, window units, small appliances, and mobile units.
  • Experience in soldering, brazing, use of recovery and recycling equipment, adjustment of mechanical, pneumatic and electronic controls.
  • Experience in air duct repair, modification and installation.
  • Must be capable for performing these functions in accordance with federal regulation section 608 of the Clean Air Act. Requires EPA Universal certificate (for recovery of refrigerants from building systems), certificate from an EPA accredited mobile unit organization.
  • Must be able to demonstrate through testing other means, theoretical and practical dexterity in the trade.
  • Must be able to obtain a government operator’s license to operate light trucks, stake trucks and forklifts (10-ton).
  • 2 Year Technical School or equivalent training such as Navy “A” school or recognized correspondence is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. Applicants selected either must currently possess a Secret clearance or will be subject to a US Government Security Investigation and must meet eligibility requirements to obtain clearance prior to commencement of employment and maintain a security clearance for access to classified information or Closed/Restricted Areas throughout duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Recover and recycle freon in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Maintain, repair and troubleshoot HVAC systems, air conditioning window units, split and package type systems, direct expansion and chill water systems.
  • Solder, braze, use recovery and recycle equipment, adjust mechanical, pneumatic and electronic controls.
  • Repair, modify and install air ducts.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and records related to work assignments. Responsible for timecards, work order documents and drawing red lines when applicable.
  • Works with other skilled craftspeople and coordinates with members of other activities to ensure quality and timely accomplishment of duties.
  • Must be able to communicate with customers and fellow workers in a professional manner.
  • Provides guidance, orientation and training to newly assigned and lower seniority employees.
  • Responsible for care of Government and company property, equipment, tools, and materials, and assure that they are properly maintained and safeguarded.
  • Performs specific tasks in accordance with verbal and/or written instructions and observes safety, fire, health, and work rules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
