About The Position

This role operates and maintains heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and dust collecting equipment. The position involves making routine and special checks on all equipment and controls, lubricating, dismantling, inspecting, cleaning, replacing parts, reassembling, and testing various components of the air conditioning system. The individual must be able to operate mechanical or control equipment manually, detect malfunctions by various means, and record test data. They will use a variety of tools and equipment, and work from schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, and instructions.

Requirements

  • Must have completed a formal apprenticeship OR have 8 years of equivalent training to qualify as a Journeyman.

  • Must be able to qualify and pass the company in plant power vehicle physical examination.
  • Must be able to qualify to access/work on the roof and/or elevated heights.
  • Must be in good physical condition and be able to do heavy lifting.
  • Specialized training and/or experience in this field is desirable.
  • This work requires a conscientious, dependable employee who can work with little or no supervision when necessary.
  • Must work both inside and outside of building in all kinds of weather.
  • Requires a considerable amount of walking and ladder climbing.
  • Works a rotating shift and continuous operation.
  • Frequently works near rapidly moving machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Operates and maintains heating, ventilating, air conditioning and dust collecting equipment.
  • Operates and adjusts equipment to control humidity, temperature, drafts, and air cleanliness.
  • Makes routine and special checks on all equipment and controls.
  • Lubricates, dismantles, inspects, cleans, replaces worn or damaged parts, reassembles and tests fans, motors, pumps, refrigeration compressors, electrostatic and automatic air filters and all other equipment that makes up the air conditioning system.
  • Performs routine and emergency maintenance work as required.
  • Operates any mechanical or control equipment manually.
  • Detects malfunction of equipment by noise, vibration, temperature, or other external means.
  • Takes and records test data, such as, air movement, wet and dry bulb temperature readings, relative humidity, fan and motor rpm, etc.
  • Uses a variety of mechanic's hand tools, small power tools, Freon leak detectors, and measuring and testing equipment.
  • Works from schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, verbal and written instructions.
