About The Position

The primary function of this position is to troubleshoot, remove, install, replace, re-build, repair, & test parts/equipment on construction equipment at an expert as well as lead and coach other technicians. This role involves using manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, and parts diagrams for independent troubleshooting and repair. The technician will use various tools and equipment, including lift trucks, overhead cranes, hand and power tools, and test equipment. Proficiency in using computer resources for parts information and data entry is required. The job also includes disassembling/re-assembling parts, cleaning components, and controlling powered equipment. Climbing onto, under, and into vehicles is necessary for access. The role requires performing inspections, preventative maintenance, and advanced-level repairs on engine, power train, hydraulic, and electrical components across numerous model lines. Additionally, the position involves reprogramming equipment controllers using instruments and computers. Leadership duties include assisting supervisors with performance appraisals, coaching and developing technicians, directing daily job assignments for a squad of up to five or more technicians, and ensuring proper troubleshooting techniques are used to meet customer and company expectations.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Eight years of Cat equipment experience.
  • Fully understands all equipment systems (i.e. engines, hydraulics, electrical, sub-electrical, transmissions, etc.) for almost all equipment model lines.
  • Must be able to daily and repeatedly stoop, kneel, bend and climb besides, onto and underneath various equipment to perform diagnosis and repairs.
  • Must be able to effectively see to perform repairs, research technical manuals, and develop written repair work order reports.
  • Must be able to routinely and physically lift/position various parts to perform repairs/service and manually handle parts up to 100 pounds, as well as use mechanical hoist for heavier parts.
  • Must be able to effectively write repair activities on customer work orders.
  • Must have cognitive reasoning and problem-solving skills to apply knowledge, written information and verbal instructions in repairing/servicing unusual and/or unknown technical equipment operational problems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others.
  • Provides training of other technicians.
  • Assigns work assignments.
  • Promotes good customer service and resolves their problems.
