About The Position

Join Mizuho as a SQL Server Lead DBA! In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team accountable for the company’s SQL Server database systems ensuring resiliency, uptime, HA/DR, performance, capacity planning, overall monitoring, compliance, and documentation. The ideal candidate provides oversight for day-to-day operational health, incident management, and service reliability across SQL Server database environments. The successful candidate requires a service oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the problems and requests assigned, a focus on managing and resolving issues in alignment with Mizuho SLAs, establishing and maintaining communication with stakeholders to keep them updated with status of their requests, initiating and performing changes on production systems and proactively escalating any issues that cannot be resolved within the established timeframes.

Requirements

  • Experience conducting enterprise modernization and upgrade programs.
  • Familiarity with large financial services or similarly complex enterprise environments.
  • Ability to push back constructively on misaligned demands, unclear ownership, or inappropriate risk transfer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Azure technologies as they related to the Microsoft Data Platform is preferred.
  • Ideal candidates will have some familiarity with other DBMSs and be able to monitor and triage issues across all database management systems in the Mizuho environment as required (SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, PostgreSQL, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead a small team of DBAs, providing guidance and sharing best practices.
  • Identify, assess, and escalate operational risks to senior leadership with clear mitigation strategies.
  • Utilize available toolset (OpsRamp, SQL Sentry, Embarcadero DB/Artisan, etc.) for database tuning. Generate traces, execution plans, identify and resolve performance issues, address deadlocks/contention.
  • Develop HA/DR strategies to meet or exceed application RTO/RPO targets and implement solutions for managing backup and recovery.
  • Support and mentor software developers to drive proper coding practices and assist in the development of complex SQL, tuning of DML and the creation of stored procedures/functions/triggers/etc.
  • Participate in and manage 24x7 on-call rotation to support database environment.
  • Support ancillary systems in the database environment (Delphix, etc.).
  • Prior ownership of audit, compliance, or regulatory interactions.
